[Concert]
Headed over to the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur with my partner in crime to catch Brian McKnight live in Kuala Lumpur on 9 May 2014, for what was to be an intimate evening with over 2,000 of his fans inside Dewan Merdeka. Now as I was born in the 80’s, by the time Brian McKnight hit the music in the 90’s I was in my teens and as I was into R&B music I did quite fancy (and can sing, as those of you who have accompanied me for karaoke sessions will know) his hit songs.
We got there at 8.30pm and got ourselves settled in our seats before the show kicked off at 8.45pm with Brian hitting the stage with his band and performing Find Myself. Dewan Merdeka isn’t the biggest of concert halls therefore Brian could easily interact and even joke with his fans who were shouting things like ” I love you Brian” and dancing, clapping and singing along to his music.
The evening continued with Don’t Stop, Love of My Life, and My Only One, with Brian showing off his vocal prowess by consistently hitting the falsetto range with his charismatic voice.
Midway through the show, one lucky fan was invited on-stage and was serenaded with Another You, before Brian proved why he is such a ladies man by giving her gift of a kiss on the cheeks and presenting her a bouquet of flowers. She looked like she was going to faint and there were hundreds of very jealous girls in the audience ha ha!
The show continued with Brian showing off his skills with various music instruments (Brian can play 8 instruments!) and serenaded the audience with Crazy Love, My Kind Girl, and 6,8, 12 (which I sang along too as it’s one of my fav Brian McKnight songs) playing an acoustic guitar, and then performed Rest of My Life and Anytime on the keyboard.
The highlight of the night was when Brian performed his biggest hit of all time – Back at One which witnessed the crowd going wild and standing up, waving their hands (and lighted mobile phones) and singing along to the song which was certified triple platinum in the US.
Brian ended the night by coming back on stage for the encore and sang Made for Love and Still. Before heading back stage after the end of the show, Brian shook hands and took a couple of quick photos with his fans who rushed to the stage. He is really quite a nice and not stuck up performer which really endeared himself to his fans who turned up to see him. It was a most memorable night for my partner in crime and I and experience that we will fondly recall for years to come.
