Food Review – Ramadan Buffet at Essence, Sheraton Imperial KL

The previous time I visited Essence I had the opportunity to try the a la carte menu (you can read about that here – https://timchew.net/2013/11/07/casual-dining-essence-at-sheraton-imperial-kuala-lumpur/) but this time round we were given a special preview of the Ramadan Buffet which is due to start in end June.

The theme of the Ramadan buffet at Essence is an exciting “Night Bazaar” experience designed to mimic the Pasar Ramadan where you can get loads of favourite Ramadan delights at a collection of stalls. Look out for Pasar Ramadan favourites such as roti john, roti canai, murtabak, pisang goreng (and all the other goreng-goreng stuff), pita/ kebab, apam balik, ais kacang and get this – there’s even a “lok-lok”” station!

Apart from the night bazaar specials, Chef Faizal and his team also prepared more than 150 local specialties, including the traditional selection of Chicken Briyani Rice, Whole Baby Lamb with Mandi Rice, Ayam Percik Terengganu, Ala Minute Asam Pedas Fish and Gulai Kawah Besar Kambing Daun Salam.

The Ramadan buffet at Essence is priced at RM118.00++ per person, and is available for dinner only from 1 July to 24 July 2014, daily, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

For those who prefer dining at home, you can take away the Chicken/ Lamb Briyani Rice special, which is available at Toastina Café & Bar. The Chicken Briyani Rice is priced at RM15.00 nett each while Lamb Briyani Rice is priced at RM18.00 nett each, and will be available for sale from 29 June to 24 July 2014, Monday to Friday from 4.00pm until 6.00pm.

Guests who confirm their reservations before 24 June, 2014, will be entitled to 40% discount off on the food bill (subject to a minimum of 4 persons and maximum of 10 persons for dine in) between 1 and 6 July 2014.

SPG members can enjoy 20% discount off total food bill. For group gatherings, Essence is offering a 35% discount for group bookings that are above 30 persons and with confirmed payment. UOB and Maybank card holders also get to enjoy special privileges while dining at Essence (terms and conditions apply of course and I suggest that you head over to the hotel’s website for more info).

Assam Pedas – the great part of the assam pedas at Essence is that you get to select your own ingredients as opposed to the ready made ones. Choose your fish/ seafood or mix a few in then select your vege and other ingredients and the chef will cook it for you on the spot!

Roti Canai/ Murtabak/ Roti John station – freshly prepared in front of you and they go well with the dhall and sambal AND a special creamy curry like sauce that contains DURIAN!!! I totally forgot the name but it was sooooooooooo remarkably delicious!

Apam Balik – freshly made on the spot and get this – you can customise your apam balik! Just tell the chef if you’d like more peanuts, less sugar, etc. etc.
