Amber Chia Academy Graduation Show 2014
The Amber Chia Academy (ACA) celebrated its annual and fourth graduation show on 2 May 2014 at Paradigm Mall in conjunction with the mall’s “In Style Spring/Summer 2014” fashion week. The event featured the graduation of more than a hundred and sixty modelling, kid modelling, makeup, nail art, and photography students – from both ACA Jaya One as well as ACA Berjaya Times Square.
The night featured fashion shows by graduating students in apparel by designer Nigel Chia, as well as pieces from the Raffles Design Institute, while those graduating in the art of beauty delivered a very creative makeup and nail art showcase.
The academy has grown since its inception during the second half of 2010, evolving from just a mere fashion and beauty school, to include avenues for individuals to pursue personal development and enhancement initiatives – with courses that range from image grooming, to proper deportment, aimed at improving the student’s motivation and confidence.
In June 2014, a performing arts course will also be introduced, in collaboration with professional drama organiser Happy Move, which is targeted to cater for those exploring various opportunities of the entertainment industry. To accommodate the new courses and students, the academy at Jaya One was treated to an additional 2,000 square feet plus expansion, while a brand new http://www.amberchiaacademy.com website was also re-launched in March 2014.
ACA has always been very proud of the achievements of its students because it makes ACA founders Amber Chia and Benjamin Toong’s efforts in establishing the academy all the more worthwhile. Out of the many award winners and title holders that emerged from ACA in the past year, a prominent highlight is former graduate Sheena Liam – a recipient of the ACA Star Award 2014 – who was crowned the cycle two winner of Asia’s Next Top Model recently, landing her a contract with Storm Model Management in London.
Another success story is Coco Siew, the female winner of the Asia New Star Model Contest 2014, who is now a regular face on the runways of fashion weeks around the city. Her male counterpart, Josh Yen, is signed to both Model Management Hong Kong as well as NOW Model Management Singapore, while Ken Chung, last year’s graduate from ACA Berjaya Times Square, was recently named Manhunt Malaysia 2014.
Performances of the evening included an energetic dance by homegrown dance group ELECOLDXHOT, a performance by starlet Crystal Lee singing the popular “Let It Go” from Frozen, as well as a thumping beat box showcase by Koujee alongside his very young protégé Sawyer Leong (who came on stage on a little tricycle and astonished the guests with his beatboxing skills). Pensonic was the title presenter for the ACA Graduation Show 2014, and other sponsors include Paradigm Mall, SOP Bar & Bistro, Bitburger, Skincode, and also MMIS.

H-Artistry Penang 2014
I have very fond memories of partying in Penang especially the two (2) H-Artistry parties that I attended back in 2012 and 2013. The entire experience of making a journey to my mother’s hometown coupled with lots of good food and of course an awesome party makes this something I look forward to yearly.
This May I’ll be heading to Penang again for the year’s first H-Artistry – The Global Art of Mixing party which will be happening at the Penang International Sports Arena (PISA), on 17 May 2014, from 7.00pm to 1.00am. You can expect to be treated to H-Artistry’s signature mix of sight, sound and taste.
This year’s H-Artistry stage will see a line-up of exciting local, regional and international acts, with a different mix of music styles and genres all through the night. Performing at the event will be Taiwanese multi-genre powerhouse and vocal heroes, Magic Power; Australia’s DJ Brooklyn, famous for her energetic and big room beats; Malaysia’s own electro-pop band Paperplane Pursuit, and Imma*bleep*YouUp, who will bring their hard hitting house tunes. As is the H-Artistry tradition, look out for some collaborations between the artistes!
If you’re active on Instagram, the hashtag for H-Artistry is #HArtistry
H-Artistry is open to non-Muslims above the age of 18 only.
