Movie – SKYFALL (James Bond 007)

50 years of James Bond 007!

Official Synopsis

Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Tomcat says…

Daniel Craig returns for his 3rd James Bond movie and he brings back the same charm and debonair of the world’s most famous (albiet fictional) secret agent. Look out for a new Q (quartermaster who provides 007 with lots of cool gadgets and cars), Moneypenny, and a new character who is played by the suave and sophisticated British actor Ralph Fiennes.

Continuing the new reboot of the 007 franchise, Daniel Craig’s 007 is not the invincible secret agent as portrayed by some previous Bonds yet stays true to the essence of the character. The franchise reboot is a more realistic and up to date portrayal of the character and the current day world situation which I suspect is to capture a new younger generation of fans while staying true to it’s roots to placate and satisfy old school Bond fans.

Yes there are some product placements which we have come to expect however the manner in which the are placed (or shall we say destroyed) is somewhat more subtle than Pierce Brosnan driving a Russian tank through a trailer carrying Perrier mineral water bottles or the Marlboro and 7-Up billboards in the Roger Moore Bond films.

The movie also gives viewers a clue as to Bond’s family history and origin. You must watch the show carefully, there are a lot of subtle details which are brilliantly woven into the movie.

007 is back in an action packed new 007 movie – SKYFALL
The movie takes place in Istanbul, Shanghai and surprisingly a huge chunk of it is in the UK!
One of the Bond girls is French actress Bérénice Marlohe who plays Sévérine while looking very ravishing!
Judy Dench who plays M has a big role in this movie as compared to previous movies where she mainly only briefed Bond on his mission
Bond uses the Walter PPK (short) in this movie as he also did in Quantum of Solace. This time the gun is coded to his palmprint so that only Bond can fire the weapon. This is an homage to Timothy Dalton’s custom gun in License to Kill. Look out for a few other homages as this movie pays tribute to some Bond movies in the past 50 years. I actually prefer Bond using the Walter P99 as he did in The World is not Enough, Die Another Day, and Casino Royale but I guess the PPK is more concealable thus more suited to 007’s covert operations.
Also returning is the iconic Aston Martin DB5 which Sean Connery used in Goldfinger. I’m quite a big Bond fan and have watched nearly all of the movies thus recognised the car.

I loved it. Not just the action but pay attention to the storyline. If you are a Bond fan your MUST watch SKYFALL. If you are not, I think you might be after wacthing this one…

I won’t give away too much but I will say this – the franchise reboot is 100% complete now paying homage to the past 50 years while launching a new era of Bond films.

Here’s to the next 50 years of 007!

Skyfall opens in Malaysian cinemas on 1 November 2012.
