Food Review – West Lake Garden at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa

[Food Review]

Headed over to the West Lake Garden Chinese Restaurant at the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa on 5 January 2012 with Jiayeen and Emma after the Carlsberg CNY promotion launch under the blazing morning sun.

It was good to get out of the heat and step into the cool environment of the hotel. The restaurant is located on the same level as the reception and has a high ceiling and a spectacular view of Sunway Lagoon.

The restaurant accomodate 120 guests comfortably in it’s main dining area and private rooms and is fully equipped with a bar and a wine room for those of you (like me) who likes a stronger drink to go with your food.

We were to try out the Golden Dragon CNY set menu which is one of four (4) CNY set menus available with prices ranging from RM1,188++ to RM2,012++ for a table of 10 people.

King Pu with Hokkaido Scallop Yee Sang - not too soggy, not too dry and served with the fresh scalllops! Pretty good!
Must toss high high! Lol
Double-Boiled Shark's Fin Soup with Japanese Scallop and Fish Maw - not the starchy kind that you get at wedding dinners. This one was sweet and flavourful and you can actually see the bits of shark's fin!
Suckling pig? NOPE! This is the Deep-fried Crispy 'Ying Yang' Chicken - Next to the brocolli are chicken skins fried with almonds underneath while the tender chicken meat is in the little bowl in the middle.
Braised Eight Headed Abalone with Black Moss, Dried Oyster and Cabbage. The dried oyster had quite a strong flavour but I really enjoyed the abalone!
Steamed Estuary Garoupa with Shredded Ginger and Dried Fruit Peel. The fish was a bit tough but the sauce was absolutely fabulous so I didn't really mind.
Steamed Fresh Water Prawn with Garlic and Glass Noodle. This was my fav dish! Delicious fresh and succulent prawns with the garlic puree and the glass noodles! One is definitely not enough!!!
Claypot Rice with Waxed Duck and Mushroom. Not the usual tasteless fried rice, this one is topped with loads of mushrooms and there are large pieces of waxed duck which adds some smoky and salty flavour to it.
Chinese New Year Sweet Fancy Duet. A ball filled with delicious black bean paste inside perfectly balances out the creamy paste.
Sweetened Lotus Paste with Lily Bulb and Glutinous Rice Dumpling. The girls loved this dessert. I liked the Lily Bulbs as the inside is filled with not too sweet lotus paste.
During the course of lunch an illusionist dropped by to wow myself and the girls with a whole bunch of magic tricks! Catch the illusionist during lunch and dinner at West Lake Garden, Avanti, Fuzion and Atrium from now till 29 February 2012

The Golden Dragon Chinese New Year menu is available at RM1,688.00++ per table of 10 guests at the West Lake Garden in Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. The set menus are available for lunch and dinner from 8 January until 6 February 2012 while the Yee Sang is also available for takeaway.

I do suggest that you call to make a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment.
