Wine and Food Pairing at Social@KL 270511
27 May 2011 -Was invited by the nice folks over at Social@KL for a wine and food pairing session. Got there a little earlier and had a round of Starker beer (Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers babes Erica, Sarah and Bell had cocktails) and some light snacks.
MHB's newest member Bell Wong with her CosmopolitanSarah with her Apple MartiniErica's Mojito. It's amazing how this one cocktail made rum a cool liquor againMy pint of Starker Lager and the Social Wings (RM17.90) - crispy and delicious chicken wings and drummets with chilli sauce. Perfect accompanyment for beer!Peking Duck with Deep Fried Mantou Buns - RM15.90 - This was unbelievably addictive! So good that we had two portions!!!Cheese Nachos - RM12.90 - cheese melted on top of the nachos. Sour cream and jalapeno tomato salsa for dipping. Then it was time for us to head upstairs to the restaurant section of Social@KL for the food and wine pairing sessionCantine Minini Audax Pinot Noir Delle Venezie IGT 2009, Italy - Red wine to go with the main course which was chicken. Chicken with red wine? But chicken is white meat! Shouldn't it go with white wine instead? Well the sauce for the chicken was infused with red wine therefore this wine complemented the chicken well.Segura Viudas Cava Reserva Heredad Brut Sparkling Wine, Spain - This went with our appetiser. Champagne made outside the region of Champagne in France cannot be called champagne.Refer to the menu below for the names. Wines start from the left (appetiser) to the right (dessert). The menu for the night.Boston Lobster Ravioli (Aragula, Parmesan Cheese Shaving, Lemon Beurre Blanc) - Cheese, lobster and pasta! My favs all together in one dish!!!Soft Farm Egg (US Asparagus, Garlic Bread Croutons, Truffle Cream) - the truffle oil aroma was pretty strong and someone commented that some people can't stand it but I really like it so bring on the truffles! This was like a combination of soup, garlic bread and soft boiled egg. Oddly enough I felt as if I was eating breakfast! Nevertheless I really enjoyed this dish!Braised Spring Chicken (Potato Mousseline, Root Vegetable, Red Wine Sauce) - Main course was pretty good. I didn't leave a single morsel behind besides the bones on the plate! Loved the sauce which was infused with red wine!Fresh Berries with Champagne Sabayon (Vanilla Ice Cream) - This went superbly with the dessert wine! The sweet flavour of the champagne sabayon and ice cream were balanced out by the sourness of the fresh berries!MHB's Sarah, Erica and Bell
