Wine Tasting at Social@KL 250211
Mei Sze, Andy, April and myself braved the rain and the crazy jam that inevitably follows any downpour in KL city to attend the food and wine pairing session at Social@KL, G Tower along Jalan Tun Razak.
As you might recall, MHB did a food review not too long ago which you can check out HERE. However this time was different as the experts from Albert Wines were on hand to teach us a little about wine pairing over Prosecco, a couple of wines and a specially prepared menu by Social@KL.
Here’s what transpired…
After sitting through a 2 hour jam just to get from Mid Valley to G Tower the first thing I wanted was an ice-cold beer. Good thing they had fresh Starker Lager at Social@KL's bar downstairsOooh! The menu sounds tempting!Prosecco 52 - essentially sparkling wine from Italy (sparkling wine made outside Champagne cannot be called champagne)Mei Sze who got stuck in the LRT (literally) on the way over with the bottle of ProseccoChardonnay "Altkirch" also from Italy. Very easy drink and not too dry, this went well with our appetizerappetizer - Hickory Smoked Chicken with avocado, sun-dried tomatoes and passion fruit dressing. Ok I was starving so this didn't stay on my plate for long. The smoky taste of the chicken was well-balanced our by the tomatoes and the fruity dressing as well as the Chardonnay.Next it was a Light Spicy Crustacean Bisque which consisted of crab meat, pistachio and creme fraiche (a delicious, thin form of sour cream). Nice! For my main I decided to order the Roasted Beef Tenderloin which was served with haricots vert bundle (green beans tied together), potato gratin and truffle beef jus. Now I loved this. Tender tender beef coupled with my favourite potato dish - gratin! This was paired with Lagrien RSV Mantsch from Italy which was a red wine. It's earthy flavours complemented the beef well.Mei Sze went for the Baked Atlantic Cod Fish with green asparagus, baby carrots and truffle cream. This was paired with the Gewurztramine also from Italy. White wine with white meat some say. However there is some truth to that because the flavours in white wine often complements white meat. But hey if you're feeling adventurers do experiment with other wines.Kahlua Creme Brulee served with Bailey's cream and biscotti. Absolutely lovely! Washed down with a cup of Illyquore coffee.April enjoying her dessert.Last pic of the night...
As usual, Social@KL’s food is absolutely delicious and when paired with the right wines is simply divine!
