Guinness Food Review – Souled Out

The nice folks at Guinness and Souled Out hosted bloggers Jackie, Shannon and me for a little preview of the delicious food and drinks that will be available at the Souled Out Guinness St. Patrick’s Festival 2011 Street Carnival happening at 6.00pm on Thursday, 10 March 2011.

Look out for buskers, dancers, clowns, magicians and of course great deals on Guinness draught at the carnival! (pssst! We hear it’s gonna be buy 2 get 1 free at 10.00pm on 10 March…)

Anyway here’s what went down at the preview…

Look out for Guinness Draught Perfect Pints going for just RM10nett at the carnival on 10 March!
Souled Out was bustling with patrons on the Wednesday night.
Guinness Lychee Shooter 10’s @ RM30nett - Guinness and lychee? Yes they go very well together and you won't be able to get enough of these little babies!
Guinness infused Salmon Tartare going for RM10 nett at the carnival - Diced fresh salmon mixed with fresh ingredients, infused with a hint of Guinness and topped with wasabi cream. Yum!!! But do expect the presentation of most of these dishes to be simpler during the carnival. The taste however will remain the same with the lovely tinge of Guinness goodness!
Small portions for each of us to taste as it was a cosy affair with only 3 of us bloggers, Sharon from G2PR and the nice PR peeps from Souled Out.
Guinness Chicken Yakitori, Ala Minute Grilled Beef with Guinness Sauce, Guinness Battered Fish & Chips (L-R)

Guinness Chicken Yakitori @ RM10 nett – Chunky chicken meat and sweet leek marinated with Japanese sauce, dipped in Guinness and grilled to perfection!

Ala Minute Grilled Beef with Guinness Sauce @ RM20 nett – Seasoned beef steak grilled, topped with fried onion rings and Guinness sauce. I really liked this one and will be looking forward to having more at the carnival! Be sure to ask them to give you some extra Guinness sauce!

Guinness Battered Fish & Chips @ RM15 nett – Snapper fillet in Guinness batter deep-fried till golden and crispy, served with spicy fries. For you fish lovers out there. I’ll stick to my steak though.

Guinness Cupcake @ RM5 nett / 2 pieces - Slightly bitter cupcakes with sweet frosting on top! Two might not be enough for those of you who have a sweet-tooth.

But hold on! What about our Muslim friends? Well fret not as Souled Out has prepared some yummy Malaysian and Asian favourites for those who do not indulge in alcohol.

8” Sake San Pizza @ RM25nett - My all time fav pizza at Souled Out which is topped with smoked salmon, roe, fresh lettuce and wasabi cream sauce!
Char Kway Teow @ RM10 nett - Kway teow fried with shrimps, bean sprouts, fishcake, fresh cockles and a hint of chilli (you can ask them to make it non-spicy if you can't take the heat).
Curry Laksa @ RM10 nett - Noodles laden with a large piece of chicken, beancurd, egg, fresh cockles, and fishballs. I'm pretty picky about my Penang food and as most of my friends know rarely eat any outside Penang. However this one had a really rich and tasty broth (make sure you don't leave this one standing at your table for too long as the meehoon will soak up all the curry) and passed my test!
Singapore Fried Noodles @ RM10 nett - Rice noodles fried with shredded vegetables and prawns in tomato sauce. This was OK but I never was a big fan of Singapore hawker food so I'll take the 2 dishes above over this one any day.
The woman behind all the delicious food - the Dancing Chef! Watch out for her with the rest of the Souled Out dancers performing nightly!
If you are dining at Souled Out on Wednesday nights you will even be serenaded by this hot duo.
Group pic!

With (bottom row L-R) Sharon from G2PR, Nikki from Souled Out, Jackie, and Shannon (top left). Stole the last pic from Jackie’s blog. He managed to take this shot by himself using his DSLR!
