Chery Malaysia Officially Launches TIGGO 9, Pricing from RM166,800

Chery Malaysia officially launched the all-new TIGGO 9 in Malaysia on 23 June 2026. The new TIGGO 9 is Chery’s flagship SUV and its first model positioned as a premium offering in the Malaysian market. The launch was graced by YB Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, and was held at the iconic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad in downtown Kuala Lumpur, which was recently reopened to the public earlier this year.

“The Chery TIGGO 9 is our new flagship, the largest in the TIGGO family offered in Malaysia. From its bold presence to its smooth, refined finishes, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to reflect confidence, sophistication, and modernity. The TIGGO 9 represents a new direction for the brand, with Lee noting that the model marks Chery’s first entry into the premium SUV segment in the country. The TIGGO 9 sets a new benchmark in what we call intelligent luxury—where advanced technology, comfort, and innovation come together to create a truly elevated driving experience.”

Lee Wen Hsiang, Vice President of Chery Malaysia

The TIGGO 9’s exterior is defined by a 3D diamond-shaped grille, LED headlights with dynamic flow lighting, and 20-inch alloy wheels fitted with 245/50R20 tyres. Flush door handles, puddle lights and integrated taillights with a diamond-inspired lighting signature complete the exterior design, which Chery positions around a confident, upscale road presence.

Built across three rows, the TIGGO 9 offers a flexible seating configuration with luggage capacity ranging from 143 litres with all seats in use, to 448 litres with the third row folded, and up to 2,065 litres with both second and third rows folded — a wide range intended to support both everyday use and longer family journeys.

Inside, both front seats are fitted with massage functions, while ventilated and heated seating extends to the first and second rows — a specification combination Chery positions as particularly relevant to Malaysia’s tropical climate. A panoramic sunroof with a retractable sunshade, a 14-speaker Sony premium audio system, and rear-row amenities including dedicated climate control, individual air vents, privacy glass and window shades round out the cabin’s comfort specification.

The TIGGO 9 features Dynamic 64-Multi Colour Ambient Lighting and a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and HD head-up display are fitted as standard, alongside a 50W wireless charger with active cooling, a driver fatigue monitoring system and a centre armrest with built-in cooling storage.

The TIGGO 9 is powered by a 2.0-litre TGDi turbocharged engine producing 256 PS (187 kW) and 390 Nm of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Fuel consumption is rated at 8.3 litres per 100 km. The model features all-wheel drive with seven selectable drive modes — Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow and Off-Road — giving it broader terrain versatility than is typical for vehicles primarily positioned around urban and family use.

The TIGGO 9’s body structure is built using 85% high-strength steel, including 21% hot-formed steel, and the vehicle is equipped with 10 SRS airbags. Chery’s ADAS 2.5 suite delivers 23 driver assistance features, including Automatic Parking Assistant, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and a 540-degree HD panoramic camera system.

The TIGGO 9 is available in Matte Grey and Carbon Black, offered in two early bird packages: Prime, priced at RM179,800, and Flexi, priced at RM166,800, offering consumers some flexibility to suit their budgets.

Early bird customers purchasing during the launch period receive a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and a 10-year or 1,000,000 km engine warranty, alongside five years of free servicing. Customers who opt for the Prime package will additionally receive a RM5,000 cash rebate, a petrol subsidy worth RM3,000 and one year of complimentary insurance worth RM4,500.

At RM166,800 and RM179,800, the TIGGO 9 enters the market at a price point that puts genuine pressure on the established mid-size SUV segment, where buyers have traditionally had to choose between specification and price rather than both. The TIGGO 9’s combination of massage seating, a panoramic sunroof, a 14-speaker audio system and a 23-function ADAS suite is a specification list more commonly associated with vehicles priced considerably higher. Interestingly, there are two early-bird packages for consumers (Prime and Flexi) to choose from, depending on their budget and preferences.

The 10-year, 1,000,000 km engine warranty in particular stands out. While vehicle warranties of seven to eight years have become increasingly common among Chinese automotive brands establishing trust in the Malaysian market, a separate 10-year engine warranty with a mileage ceiling that high is a more assertive commitment than most competitors currently offer — and it directly targets the long-term reliability concerns that remain the most common hesitation among buyers considering newer automotive brands.

For families specifically, the TIGGO 9’s three-row flexibility and luggage capacity range — from 143 to 2,065 litres — gives it genuine adaptability between daily commuting and larger cargo or travel needs, without requiring a compromise between passenger and storage capacity that smaller seven-seaters often demand. Combined with the seven drive modes, including off-road terrain settings, the TIGGO 9 appeals to a broader range of ownership use cases than a typical premium SUV in this price tier.
