The MG Cyberster presents a fresh take on the classic British roadster, merging modern electric vehicle cues with timeless sports car proportions. Its design strikes a careful balance between style and everyday usability, making it an appealing choice for those who appreciate clean, thoughtful aesthetics.
After collecting the car, I drove it extra carefully and conservatively as I slowly acclimated myself to the car. One very noticeable aspect was that the car really wanted to run. The slightest touch of the accelerator generated a response from the motor, making the Cyberster ideal for those with a light foot (like me!). More on my experience with the car and its features, which you will be able to read about soon in parts 2 – 7. In the meantime, here’s some info on the brand, which is still relatively “new” in Malaysia.
MG, short for Morris Garages, is a British marque with a rich heritage dating back to 1924. Founded in Oxford by Cecil Kimber, MG initially built its reputation through sporty, affordable cars known for their driving enjoyment. The brand also has strong ties to motorsport, with early successes in racing helping to establish its performance credentials and enthusiastic following. Over the decades, MG’s identity as a maker of classic British sports cars became iconic worldwide. Today’s MG Cyberster carries forward this legacy by combining the marque’s traditional roadster spirit with contemporary electric vehicle technology, reflecting both its historical roots and future-focused ambitions.
Earlier this year, Morris Garages unveiled plans to introduce 17 new vehicle models within the coming three years, the automaker revealed during the Auto Shanghai 2025 press preview. The comprehensive product expansion by MG will encompass seven sport utility vehicles, seven sedans and hatchbacks, two pickup trucks, and one multi-purpose vehicle.
The forthcoming lineup will span multiple market segments, ranging from compact A-segment urban vehicles to full-size offerings. Propulsion systems will include conventional internal combustion engines, battery electric vehicles, and intermediate options such as conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrid variants.
This multi-powertrain approach represents an uncommon strategy. However, MG intends to provide diverse powertrain configurations to accommodate varying regional market preferences and requirements.
The manufacturer has established specific performance benchmarks for its propulsion technologies: hybrid electric vehicles will target fuel consumption below 4 liters per 100 kilometers (exceeding 25 kilometers per liter), plug-in hybrids will offer pure electric range surpassing 200 kilometers with combined range exceeding 2,000 kilometers, and premium electric vehicles will achieve ranges beyond 1,000 kilometers.
Among the planned releases are the MG S6 EV, the MG P9 pickup truck, a compact four-meter electric hatchback, and a seven-passenger mid-size SUV featuring hybrid electric propulsion with all-wheel drive capability.
Additionally, an entirely redesigned MG6 will debut in three body configurations: a hatchback/crossover variant, a sedan, and a station wagon. With the MG5 occupying the C-segment category, the MG6 is anticipated to represent a sophisticated D-segment global platform offering.

My first outing with the MG Cyberster was to Les Bouchons Kuala Lumpur, which is tucked away along Jalan Mayang, just a few hundred meters away from the Petronas Twin Towers. This French restaurant offers diners a welcoming retreat modelled after the classic French bistro, and consistently draws attention for its atmospheric charm, signature steak frites, and thoughtfully curated wine list—blending conviviality with an air of understated sophistication.
Upon entering Les Bouchons, we were greeted by interiors that evoke the warmth and energy of Parisian dining rooms. The restaurant’s main hall, adorned with intricate décor, complements smaller spaces designed for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. A private dining room serves as a fitting venue for discreet celebrations or corporate functions, while the balcony—overlooking the city—provides a tranquil place to linger over a meal.
At the culinary core of Les Bouchons lies an appreciation for traditions. The kitchen’s no-pork, no-lard philosophy ensures halal-friendly dining, without sacrificing the spirit or depth of classic French cuisine. The star attraction is, unsurprisingly, the Steak Frites: premium cuts of beef, from extra tender Black Angus filet to marbled Wagyu and robust Angus sirloin, are expertly grilled and presented with a simple salad and a side of crisp, homemade fries. Guests may also select alternatives like roasted cauliflower or king oyster mushrooms; those seeking a touch of luxury opt for the truffle fries.
The menu extends beyond steak. Starters illustrate the kitchen’s technique—from house-made duck liver terrine paired with onion chutney, to tequila-cured salmon gravlax, and the timeless French onion soup, topped with Emmental toast. Classics like Burgundy snails in garlic butter and rich beef bone marrow add to the selection. Other mains showcase French comfort: cassoulet simmered with duck, lamb, and sausage; boeuf bourguignon slow-braised in red wine; and confit duck leg with thyme sauce. Cheese lovers can explore French brie infused with truffle, while pescatarians have grilled salmon and barramundi to look forward to.
Meals here often end with a flourish. The dessert list is full of French icons—tarte Tatin with caramelised apples, molten double chocolate fondant, and a classic crème brûlée. For a dramatic tableside finale, the crêpe Suzette is flambéed in Grand Marnier, offering both spectacle and sweetness. Guests can also find mousse au chocolat, poached pear in syrah, and house-made tiramisu.
A defining feature of Les Bouchons is its wine list, curated by the proprietor, a noted enthusiast. The emphasis on French labels is complemented by selections from other celebrated wine regions. On Tuesdays, bottles are available at retail prices for both dine-in and takeaway—a gesture that appeals to aficionados and casual drinkers alike. The restaurant’s approach is friendly and welcoming, making it easy for guests to experiment with food and wine pairings or discover a new favourite.
Les Bouchons Jalan Mayang distinguishes itself by focusing on the essentials: generous hospitality, honest food, and an inviting atmosphere. The commitment to quality—evident from the carefully sourced steak to the classic desserts—creates a sense of reliability and comfort. Rather than aiming for showy grandeur, the restaurant commits to creating a Parisian bistro experience that feels both accessible and special.
The result is a restaurant that invites regular visits, whether for a midweek meal, a milestone celebration, or an evening exploring French cuisine and wine. Les Bouchons Jalan Mayang has become a favourite not because of any single dish, but through the seamless interplay of food, setting, service, and convivial spirit—qualities that resonate with diners looking for something quietly remarkable in Kuala Lumpur’s dynamic dining scene.
