Emirates will begin operating its Airbus A350 aircraft on flights between Dubai and Kuala Lumpur from 1 September 2026, a move that will increase the number of Premium Economy seats available daily on the route to 52.

The A350 will fly as EK344/345, joining a retrofitted Boeing 777 that already operates the Malaysian capital route as EK346/347 with Premium Economy seating. Emirates said the addition of the A350 would broaden its Premium Economy offering in Kuala Lumpur.

Emirates’ A350 is configured with 32 lie-flat Business Class seats arranged 1-2-1, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy Class seats, according to the airline, although it noted that the configuration may change due to operational adjustments.

Business Class seats feature wireless charging, and window blinds across the premium cabins are electronic, displaying the Emirates Ghaf tree motif when closed. Passengers in premium cabins can also access digital inflight menus through the aircraft’s ice screens.

The airline’s ice inflight entertainment system on the A350 includes 4K and 4K HDR displays on touchscreens. Emirates said the aircraft also offers Wi-Fi through ViaSat’s Global Xpress satellite network, along with wireless access points intended to improve connectivity throughout the cabin.

The A350 is one of two new-generation widebody aircraft types Emirates has introduced to its fleet in recent years, alongside continued operations of its existing Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft. The carrier has been gradually deploying the A350 across a growing number of routes since taking delivery of the type, alongside a broader effort to retrofit older aircraft, including some 777s, with updated cabin interiors and additional Premium Economy seating.

With the A350 flying between Kuala Lumpur and Dubai, Emirates said travellers on the route would have access to a consistent onboard product on connecting flights to more than 20 destinations across its network that are also served by the A350, including Istanbul, Lyon and Frankfurt.

Emirates has operated flights to Malaysia since 1996 and currently runs 21 weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Dubai. The airline also has a codeshare partnership with Malaysia Airlines, connecting passengers to 17 destinations beyond Kuala Lumpur on a single ticket, along with reciprocal frequent flyer arrangements. A separate codeshare agreement with Batik Air gives Emirates customers access to five Malaysian domestic destinations, Penang, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, as well as three regional Southeast Asian points, via Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport was the first airport in Malaysia able to handle the Airbus A380, and Emirates began flying the A380 to the city in 2012. The airline currently operates the A380, the Boeing 777 and, from next month, the A350 on its Malaysian routes.

Emirates began operations in 1985 with two aircraft and now operates some of the world’s largest fleets of the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777, alongside a growing number of A350s. Customers can book flights on the Dubai-Kuala Lumpur route through the Emirates website, its mobile app, Emirates retail stores, the airline’s contact centre or travel agents.

For travellers booking flights between Kuala Lumpur and Dubai, the change means a wider choice of Premium Economy seats across the two daily services on the route, alongside the existing Boeing 777 option. Passengers connecting onward from Dubai to destinations also served by the A350, among them Istanbul, Lyon and Frankfurt, can expect a broadly similar onboard experience across both legs of their journey, which may simplify decisions around seat selection and expectations for cabin comfort on connecting itineraries.

The newer aircraft brings some incremental improvements passengers may notice, including updated inflight entertainment screens, electronic window blinds and, notably, satellite Wi-Fi intended to offer steadier connectivity than some older aircraft systems. None of these features are unique to Emirates, as rival carriers operating the A350 and similar widebody types have introduced comparable cabin technology in recent years, but their arrival on the Kuala Lumpur route gives local travellers another option alongside Emirates’ existing A380 and 777 services already flying from the city.

More broadly, the deployment adds to the range of aircraft types Malaysian travellers can choose from when flying Emirates, with the A380, 777 and A350 now all in rotation on routes from Kuala Lumpur. For passengers who have a preference for a particular cabin layout or aircraft type, checking which aircraft is scheduled on a given flight number before booking may be worthwhile, since Emirates has noted that configurations can be adjusted for operational reasons. Beyond seat counts and entertainment upgrades, the expanded Premium Economy availability may also give budget-conscious travellers seeking more space than Economy, but without the cost of Business Class, additional flexibility when choosing flight times on the Dubai route.
