Swiss watchmaker Luminox has introduced a navy blue colourway to its MIL-SPEC 3350 series, the third edition of the military-specification watch line. Luminox is renowned for its self-powered luminous watch technology using tritium gas tubes, with its watches used by the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue, as well as by military, law enforcement and diving professionals, and adventurer Bear Grylls.
The new model, designated 3355.SET, features a deep blue dial with white numerals and a yellow second hand, the tip of which is coated in SuperLumiNova for visibility in low light. The colourway is described by the company as drawing on maritime and ocean themes, intended to keep the dial legible both on land and underwater.
Mil-Spec, short for Military Specification, refers to a set of technical standards originally developed for military equipment, covering sourcing, fabrication, materials, quality and supply. Luminox said the 3350 series is built to comply with the requirements of MIL-PRF-46374G Type III Class 1, and that the line was developed for military personnel, outdoor professionals and watch collectors.
The watch has a 46-millimetre Carbonox+ case paired with a micro-sandblasted titanium grade 2 unidirectional rotating bezel and a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The case back is 316L stainless steel with a screw-in design, and the crown is also screw-in and protected. The watch includes a date function and a dive bezel, and is rated water-resistant to 300 metres. Luminox said the case materials are intended to resist saltwater corrosion.
It is powered by a Swiss-made ETA F06.412 quartz movement incorporating two proprietary technologies, HeavyDrive and PreciDrive. According to Luminox, a watch movement can be affected when the watch is struck or experiences sudden imbalance; HeavyDrive applies a counter-impulse after such an impact, which the company says reduces the chance of the hands skipping. PreciDrive, meanwhile, uses an additional thermo-compensation unit that adjusts the movement’s pulses according to ambient and watch temperature. Luminox said this keeps timekeeping deviation to within plus or minus 10 seconds a year, depending on wearing conditions.
The watch also uses Luminox Light Technology, a self-powered illumination system built into the hour markers, hands and bezel rather than one that relies on an external light source or a pushbutton to charge. The brand says the system remains visible in all lighting conditions for up to 25 years.
The 3355.SET is priced at RM5,055 and is sold as a set that includes a blue rubber strap and an additional black webbing strap, allowing for different styles of wear, presented in a branded case.
Luminox watches are distributed in Malaysia by Crystal Time and are available at Parkson One Utama, Seibu The Exchange TRX, Sogo Kuala Lumpur, Sogo Central i-City in Shah Alam, Sogo Mid Valley Southkey, and other authorised retailers.
