BYD Expands EV Network with New Showrooms & Service Centres Nationwide

BYD Sime Motors has crossed the 40-showroom mark in Malaysia, with nine additional service centres in progress that will bring the brand’s total aftersales touchpoints to 34 by the end of 2026. The expansion is both a response to and a driver of the brand’s rapid commercial momentum — BYD delivered 14,407 vehicles in 2025, a 68% increase over 2024, and is on track to reach 30,000 cumulative Malaysian customers by April 2026. It took the brand 20 months to acquire its first 10,000 customers; the second 10,000 came in just 13 months.

The growth story behind those numbers is striking. BYD rose from a Top 10 car brand in 2024 to become Malaysia’s sixth best-selling brand overall in 2025 and the fourth best-selling non-national brand — figures that reflect both the accelerating pace of EV adoption in Malaysia and BYD’s specific ability to capitalise on it. The brand has now held the title of Malaysia’s number one battery electric vehicle brand for three consecutive years.

“These milestones reflect the strong partnership between BYD and Sime Motors, as well as our shared commitment to raising the standards of EV ownership in Malaysia. A comprehensive network allows BYD to provide robust support throughout the ownership lifecycle as well as greater resale confidence. Each of our newest outlets are designed to deliver a more refined showroom experience, reflecting BYD’s promise to combine advanced technology with a premium, customer-centric environment. As the nation’s leading BEV brand, our focus is clear as we move forward. We will prioritise the needs of Malaysians as we continue to grow our nationwide network and strengthen every customer touchpoint. We are also grateful for the trust of our BYD community and remain firm in supporting them with ever increasing convenience, confidence and care.”

Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia

The expansion is notably broad in geographic scope, with BYD moving deliberately beyond the Klang Valley to establish footholds in secondary cities and underserved regions.

In the south, BYD has opened outlets in Muar and Kluang, extending coverage into Johor’s growing secondary cities beyond the established Johor Bahru presence. On the East Coast — a region where EV infrastructure has historically lagged behind the peninsula’s west — BYD Kuala Terengganu joins existing outlets in Kuantan and Kota Bahru, positioning the brand to capture rising demand across all three of the region’s main urban centres.

The northern region has seen the most concentrated activity: BYD Sungai Petani and BYD Juru are newly operational, while the BYD Ipoh 3S Centre is a particular standout. The Ipoh facility includes the city’s first dedicated EV charging hub, equipped with 240 kWh and 180 kWh DC chargers — a move that addresses charging accessibility in a city that, until now, had limited fast-charging options.

In the central region, the BYD Sri Hartamas 3S Centre takes an approach worth noting: it is located within a shopping mall, integrating sales, service, and spare parts under one roof in a format that allows customers to combine a service visit with other errands. It is a model that other brands have experimented with to varying effect, but one that suits BYD’s positioning as a brand seeking to normalise EV ownership rather than make it feel like a specialist pursuit.

The network also includes 12 Body & Paint outlets, with more planned — an infrastructure investment that signals BYD’s awareness that long-term ownership confidence depends on more than just the sales and service experience at point of purchase.

A flagship outlet is in the pipeline for Macalister, Penang. Branded BYD Mansion, the space will incorporate local cultural elements into its design — an approach BYD Sime Motors says will subsequently be rolled out across other showrooms as the company seeks to reflect both the BYD corporate identity and the character of the communities each outlet serves.

The aftersales infrastructure underpinning all of this is built around a pool of 80 EV-certified technicians trained through the BYD Academy, supported by a centralised parts warehouse designed to reduce waiting times and improve service transparency.

“Despite operating in an increasingly competitive market, we have proven our capability and resilience,” he said. “This year presents a fresh opportunity to further strengthen BYD’s nationwide presence with the focus on providing a more premium and elevated customer experience and delivering intelligent, zero-emission mobility solutions. We believe this is fundamental to spurring greater EV adoption in Malaysia.”

Sime Motors Unveils BYD Mansion in Penang

Sime Darby Beyond Auto has opened BYD Mansion Macalister in Penang, converting a century-old heritage building along Jalan Macalister into what it describes as Malaysia’s first BYD heritage-concept showroom. The opening represents a deliberate departure from the conventional automotive dealership format — and in doing so, sets a retail template that BYD Sime Motors has indicated will inform future showroom openings across the country.

The building itself carries its own history. Standing on a 26,994 square foot parcel of land with approximately 9,000 square feet of built-up space, it previously served as a commercial landmark along one of Penang’s most recognisable thoroughfares, housing businesses and offices across its lifetime. The restoration that preceded the showroom opening was meticulous rather than cosmetic — the building’s architectural character has been preserved, with the contemporary retail fit-out introduced within rather than imposed upon it. The result is a space that reads as a genuine synthesis of the old and the new, rather than a heritage facade stretched over a standard dealership floor.

“BYD Mansion Macalister represents an important milestone in how we continue to evolve the automotive retail experience. By transforming a historic property into a modern electric mobility destination, we are not only preserving an important part of Penang’s architectural heritage, but also creating a meaningful space where customers can experience the future of mobility. This reflects Sime Motors’ long-term commitment to supporting the growth of electric vehicles and expanding our presence across Malaysia.”

Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Motors

The showroom floor holds four vehicles, presented in a gallery-style arrangement rather than the densely packed display typical of volume dealerships. Consultation areas are lounge-style, and a private delivery room has been designed specifically for personalised vehicle handovers — a detail that speaks to the ownership experience BYD is trying to position itself around at this end of the market.

The mansion functions as a fully integrated ownership destination rather than a pure sales point. A service centre on site is equipped with five work bays, one alignment bay, and three service reception bays, meaning customers can handle both the purchase and the ongoing maintenance of their vehicles within the same compound. An urban charging hub rounds out the offering: one 60 kW DC fast charger and seven AC chargers, accessible to BYD owners and to the broader EV-driving public in the area.

“The opening of BYD Mansion in Macalister is a meaningful milestone for BYD in Malaysia, reflecting our continued commitment to growing the brand in ways that are closer to local communities. What makes this showroom especially significant is how it brings together premium customer experience, innovation, and uniquely Malaysian cultural touches, creating a space that not only showcases our vehicles, but also reflects the warmth, identity, and progress of the market we are proud to serve.”

Jacob Ma, Deputy General Manager of BYD Malaysia

The Penang opening was first signalled in early March 2026, when Sime Motors announced that BYD Mansion Macalister would be the flagship outlet whose design philosophy would subsequently be rolled out across other showrooms. The heritage-integration approach — incorporating local cultural and architectural character into the retail environment — is positioned as a differentiator from the standardised dealership formats that characterise most of the market.

Sime Darby Beyond Auto’s partnership with BYD dates to December 2022, and the group currently operates BYD retail and service locations at Ara Damansara, TREC Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Tebrau, in addition to the new Penang outlet. The group’s performance within the BYD dealer network has been recognised at a national level: BYD Penang received the Best BYD Dealer in Malaysia award for overall performance, and Sime Darby Beyond Auto secured 13 of the 27 awards presented at this year’s BYD Dealer Conference & Awards Night.

The opening arrives at a point of significant momentum for BYD in Malaysia. The brand delivered 14,407 vehicles in 2025 — a 68% increase year-on-year — and has held the title of Malaysia’s number one battery electric vehicle brand for three consecutive years. With the broader BYD Sime Motors network now exceeding 40 showrooms nationwide, the Penang flagship adds a qualitatively different kind of presence to that footprint: one designed as much to communicate what EV ownership means as to sell the vehicles themselves.
