Vista Places Major Challenger 3500 Order With Bombardier

Bombardier has announced a substantial order on 11 February 2026 for Challenger 3500 business jets from Vista and its commonly controlled entities, comprising 40 firm aircraft orders with options for an additional 120 units. The firm orders are valued at US$1.18 billion based on 2026 list prices.
If all purchase options are exercised, the total contract value would reach US$4.72 billion for 160 aircraft. The order represents one of the largest single commitments for super-midsize business jets in recent years and reflects Vista’s continued fleet expansion strategy.
Vista operates fractional ownership and charter programmes, providing access to business aviation services for corporate and individual clients. The company has been a customer of Bombardier aircraft for several years, with the new order significantly expanding its fleet of Challenger 3500 aircraft.
“Bombardier jets pioneered the super-midsize aircraft category, and with the Challenger 3500 aircraft we continue to raise the bar for customers when it comes to offering a full package of performance, reliability and cabin comfort. These significant orders are a testament to how well this aircraft serves our customers, delivering the perfect balance of cutting-edge technology, exceptional comfort, and proven value. Vista has been a valued Bombardier customer since they began operating. We are proud that our relationship will further deepen through these significant orders and are excited for Vista’s teams and clients to benefit from everything the Challenger 3500 aircraft has to offer.”
Éric Martel, President and CEO, Bombardier
“This agreement is about leadership, preparedness and client experience. We are continuing to build the fleet our Members will rely on over the next decade, not reacting to short-term cycles, but investing with clarity, scale and discipline.”
Thomas Flohr, Founder and Chairman of Vista
The order underscores demand in the super-midsize business jet segment, where the Challenger 3500 competes with aircraft such as the Gulfstream G280, Embraer Praetor 600, and Dassault Falcon 2000 series. The substantial volume indicates Vista’s confidence in the aircraft’s operational economics and market positioning.
According to Bombardier, the Challenger 3500 achieved a milestone in 2024 by becoming the fastest-growing platform to reach 100 deliveries in the super-midsize category. The aircraft’s dispatch reliability rate exceeds 99.8%, which is a key metric for operators managing fractional ownership and charter fleets where aircraft availability directly impacts revenue generation.
The manufacturer states that the Challenger 3500 offers the lowest direct operating costs in its category, an important consideration for high-utilisation operators like Vista. Direct operating costs include fuel, maintenance, crew expenses, and other variable costs associated with flight operations.
The Challenger 3500 is positioned in the super-midsize segment with a maximum range of 3,400 nautical miles, enabling nonstop flights on routes such as New York to London or Los Angeles to Honolulu. The aircraft can accommodate up to 10 passengers in typical configurations and features a flat-floor cabin with a height of six feet.
Powered by two Honeywell HTF7350 turbofan engines, each producing 7,323 pounds of thrust, the aircraft has a maximum operating altitude of 45,000 feet. The engines feature FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) for optimised performance and fuel efficiency across various flight conditions.
The aircraft’s cabin altitude is maintained at 4,850 feet while cruising at 41,000 feet, which is lower than many competing aircraft in the super-midsize category. The reduced cabin altitude is designed to minimise passenger fatigue during longer flights.
The Challenger 3500 incorporates design elements from Bombardier’s Global family of large-cabin aircraft, adapted for the super-midsize platform. The cabin features Bombardier’s patented Nuage seating, which includes a tilting headrest, floating base, and deep recline capability designed for passenger comfort during extended flights.
Technology features include voice-control capability for cabin management systems, allowing passengers to adjust lighting, temperature, and entertainment systems through voice commands. The aircraft offers 4K entertainment system displays, wireless charging stations integrated into the cabin, and connectivity options that support bring-your-own-device integration.
The cabin management system enables passengers to use personal devices to control cabin functions and access entertainment content. This approach reduces dedicated control hardware while providing flexibility for passengers who prefer to use their own smartphones or tablets.
Cabin lighting systems include LED technology with adjustable colour temperature and intensity, allowing occupants to customise the cabin environment. The aircraft also features a fully enclosed lavatory and a galley with storage for extended flights.
The Challenger 3500 is equipped with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion integrated avionics suite, featuring four large touchscreen displays and synthetic vision technology. The avionics package includes advanced weather radar, enhanced vision systems, and connectivity options for real-time weather and traffic information.
Flight deck features are designed to reduce pilot workload during all phases of operation. The avionics suite integrates flight management, navigation, and communication systems into a unified interface, with touchscreen controls reducing the number of physical switches and knobs compared to previous-generation flight decks.
Vista operates one of the largest business aviation fleets in North America, providing fractional ownership, membership, and charter services to corporate and individual clients. The company’s business model relies on high aircraft utilisation rates, making operational reliability and cost efficiency critical factors in fleet selection decisions.
The addition of up to 160 Challenger 3500 aircraft, if all options are exercised, would represent a significant portion of Vista’s fleet composition. The order follows Vista’s pattern of placing large block orders to secure favourable pricing and delivery positions while standardising fleet types to reduce training and maintenance complexity.
Fleet standardisation enables Vista to streamline crew training, maintenance procedures, and parts inventory management. Pilots qualified on one Challenger 3500 can operate any aircraft in the fleet without additional type-specific training, improving operational flexibility and crew scheduling efficiency.
Bombardier has not disclosed the delivery schedule for the firm orders or the time frame during which Vista may exercise its purchase options. Large block orders of this magnitude typically involve deliveries spanning several years to align with production capacity and the customer’s fleet expansion plans.
The order will affect Bombardier’s production planning at its aircraft manufacturing facilities in Canada. The Challenger 3500 shares production facilities and supply chain infrastructure with other Bombardier business jet programmes, requiring coordination to balance production rates across different aircraft types.
The order demonstrates continued demand in the super-midsize business jet segment, which serves both corporate flight departments and charter operators. The segment’s appeal stems from its combination of transcontinental range capability, cabin space sufficient for productive work or relaxation, and operating costs lower than large-cabin aircraft.
For Bombardier, the order provides production visibility and revenue certainty, supporting investment in product development and manufacturing infrastructure. Large orders from established customers like Vista also serve as market validation for aircraft performance and operational characteristics.
The super-midsize segment remains competitive, with manufacturers offering various trade-offs between range, cabin size, and operating economics. Vista’s commitment to the Challenger 3500 platform reflects the aircraft’s positioning within this competitive landscape and its suitability for high-utilisation operations.
