Huawei Brings the Mate X7 to Malaysia, Alongside a Refreshed Wearables and Audio Lineup

Huawei has officially launched the Mate X7 in Malaysia, its latest foldable smartphone and the current top of the company’s consumer device range. The launch event also introduced three companion products to the local market: the FreeClip 2 open-ear earphones, the HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Royal Gold Edition, and the WATCH GT 6 series — together completing what Huawei frames as an updated flagship ecosystem heading into 2026.

The Mate X7 carries a retail price of RM 8,688, positioning it squarely in the premium segment of the foldable market. Pre-orders opened on 20 January at HUAWEI Experience Stores nationwide and across the brand’s official online channels on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop. The device is also available on postpaid through Maxis, with plans starting from RM 170 per month.

The Mate X7 is built around Huawei’s X-True dual display system — a 6.49-inch outer screen and an 8-inch inner display — both with adaptive refresh rates. The outer screen is designed for sunlight visibility and one-handed use when the device is folded; the inner screen opens into the kind of working area that foldables have been promising since the format emerged, suited to split-screen multitasking, document work, and media consumption.

At 9.1mm thin when folded, the Mate X7 is notably compact for its display size. Huawei attributes this partly to the quad-curved foldable chassis and partly to what it calls the Advanced Precision Hinge — a redesigned mechanism intended to reduce bulk at the spine while maintaining structural integrity through repeated folding cycles. The inner display is reinforced by a three-layer composite structure, and the outer screen is protected by Crystal Armour Kunlun Glass, a material Huawei has used across its premium range and positions as significantly more impact-resistant than conventional smartphone glass.

Durability credentials include IP58 and IP59 ratings — covering resistance to dust ingress and protection against water immersion and high-pressure water jets respectively. For a foldable, where the hinge and inner display have historically been points of vulnerability, these ratings represent a meaningful practical assurance.

The device is available in three finishes: Nebula Red, Classic Black, and Brocade White. The rear panel uses what Huawei describes as Light Woven Brocade craftsmanship — a textured surface treatment that gives each colourway a degree of visual depth that distinguishes it from a standard glass or metal back.

The Mate X7’s camera configuration is centred on Huawei’s True-to-Colour system, which the company says is tuned for colour accuracy and natural rendering across a broad range of lighting conditions rather than the heavily processed, saturated output that characterises some competing approaches. The system is complemented by an Ultra Lighting HDR mode that works to preserve highlight and shadow detail in high-contrast scenes — a common challenge in smartphone photography.

The telephoto lens is a 50-megapixel sensor with 3.5x optical zoom and macro capability, which gives the camera system meaningful versatility across shooting distances. The combination of a true optical zoom and close-focus macro in the same lens is a practical convenience for travel and documentary photography, where switching between subjects at different distances is a constant requirement.

Video recording supports Ultra HDR in 4K, which captures footage with a wider dynamic range than standard HDR video — a relatively recent capability in smartphones and one that is primarily relevant to users who intend to edit their footage or view it on compatible high-dynamic-range displays.

The AI imaging tools on the Mate X7 include AI Remove for object removal and scene clean-up, and AI Best Expression — a function that analyses a burst of portrait shots and identifies the frame where the subject’s expression is most natural. These are incremental refinements to features that have appeared in various forms across the premium smartphone market, rather than fundamentally new capabilities, but they represent a sensible integration of machine learning into the editing workflow.

The Mate X7 is powered by a 5,600 mAh silicon carbon battery — a chemistry that allows for higher energy density in a given physical volume compared with conventional lithium-ion cells, which is particularly relevant in a foldable where battery space is constrained by the hinge and dual-screen architecture. Charging is supported at 66W wired and 50W wireless via HUAWEI SuperCharge.

AI features extend into communication as well. Face-to-Face Translation is designed for real-time spoken translation between two people using the device’s dual screens — a use case particularly relevant for business travel. Two-way AI noise cancellation applies during calls and video meetings, filtering ambient sound at both ends of the conversation.

HUAWEI FreeClip 2

The FreeClip 2 is an open-ear earphone that uses what Huawei calls an Airy C-Bridge design — a C-shaped clip mechanism that sits around the outer ear rather than inserting into the ear canal, allowing the wearer to remain aware of ambient sound while listening. The format is well-suited to commuting and active use where situational awareness matters. The FreeClip 2 is available at RM 699 (after RM 50 rebate) at all HUAWEI Experience Stores and the brand’s online channels.

HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Royal Gold Edition

The fourth iteration of the WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN continues the line’s combination of high-end materials, advanced health monitoring, and professional outdoor functionality. The Royal Gold Edition targets users who want a watch that functions across both formal and demanding physical environments without requiring a swap between devices. Exclusive free gifts valued at up to RM 2,192 are available with purchase.

HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 Series

The WATCH GT 6 range includes a notable collaboration with HONMA, the Japanese golf equipment and accessories brand — producing the HONMA x HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 Pro, which integrates golf-specific features with HONMA’s design sensibility. The GT 6 41mm is also introduced in a new Milanese strap variant, available in Gold and Black, which expands the series’ appeal for users who prioritise everyday wearability over sports functionality. The GT 6 series comes with free gifts valued at up to RM 89.

Pre-order customers for the Mate X7 are eligible for a package of exclusive gifts valued at up to RM 7,597, which includes a HUAWEI WATCH 5, a HUAWEI MatePad 11.5, HUAWEI Care+ with one-year one-time screen protection, and a trade-in rebate of up to RM 2,000. AppGallery benefits worth up to RM 3,069 are also available, covering partner deals with Genting Malaysia, Trip.com, Celebrity Fitness, and MST Golf, among others. All pre-order incentives are subject to availability and their respective redemption periods.
