BYD SEAL 6 EV Makes Global Debut in Malaysia

BYD selected Malaysia as the location for the worldwide premiere of its latest electric vehicle, the SEAL 6 EV, as the Chinese automaker continues its aggressive expansion in the Southeast Asian market. The C-segment sedan represents BYD’s seventh model offering in Malaysia and is positioned to compete in the mid-size sedan category with a combination of advanced electric drivetrain technology, premium features, and competitive pricing starting at RM100,000.

BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia, is marketing the SEAL 6 EV under the tagline “Precision. Passion. Aligned,” emphasising the vehicle’s advanced suspension system and rear-wheel-drive configuration—a rarity in its segment.

The sedan features BYD’s first implementation of a dual ball-joint MacPherson strut front suspension paired with a multi-link rear setup. The rear-wheel-drive layout, uncommon among C-segment sedans in Malaysia, is designed to deliver what the company describes as a “premium sporty feel” with balanced weight distribution and a tight 5.5-meter turning radius.

At 4,720mm in length and 2,820mm in wheelbase, the SEAL 6 EV claims the title of largest vehicle in Malaysia’s C-segment sedan category. The interior offers 24 storage compartments and a combined cargo capacity of 525 litres.

BYD is offering the SEAL 6 EV in two variants. The Dynamic variant, priced at RM100,000, produces 95kW of power and 220Nm of torque, achieving 0-100km/h acceleration in 10.9 seconds. The Premium variant, at RM115,800, delivers significantly more performance with 160kW of power, 330Nm of torque, and a 0-100km/h time of 7.5 seconds.

Both models utilise BYD’s Blade Battery technology with a 56.64kWh capacity, offering a NEDC-combined driving range of 485 kilometres. The vehicles support both AC charging via Type 2 connector at 7kW and DC fast charging through CCS 2 at 100kW. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality is standard across both variants.

The first 800 customers will receive launch packages valued at up to RM6,288. Dynamic variant buyers receive a complimentary wall charger worth RM3,288. Premium variant purchasers can choose between two options: landed property residents receive the wall charger plus a RM3,000 rebate, while high-rise residents can opt for a 12-month Sime Platinum 4+ doorstep charging program worth RM5,000 plus a RM1,000 rebate.

All SEAL 6 EV models come with a comprehensive warranty package including six years or 150,000km vehicle coverage, and eight years or 160,000km coverage for both the drive unit and high-voltage Blade Battery.

BYD Sime Motors currently operates 37 outlets across Malaysia and aims to reach 50 locations by the end of 2026. Since entering the Malaysian market, the company has sold over 20,000 units, reflecting growing consumer acceptance of the brand’s electric vehicle offerings.

The SEAL 6 EV measures 4,720mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,495mm in height, with a ground clearance of 165mm. Standard features across both variants include an 8.8-inch digital instrument panel, 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, synthetic leather seats, panoramic 360-degree view monitor, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and automatic emergency braking.

The Premium variant adds exclusive features, including a panoramic sunroof, eight-way power-adjustable and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, 8-speaker audio system (versus 6 in the Dynamic), ambient lighting, and 18-inch wheels compared to the Dynamic’s 17-inch alloys.

Available exterior colours include Arctic White, Harbour Grey, and Misty Blue, all paired with a black and grey interior colour scheme.
