OMODA JAECOO Malaysia Unveils Two New Models at Inaugural Technology Carnival

OMODA JAECOO Malaysia launched its first-ever technology and lifestyle showcase today, officially opening the OMODA JAECOO Carnival at Desa ParkCity. The four-day event highlights the automotive brand’s commitment to hybrid mobility technology while previewing two upcoming models for the Malaysian market.

The carnival serves as a comprehensive display of the brand’s expanding lineup, with particular focus on New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and electrified powertrains. At the centre of the showcase is the SHS Experience Lab, an interactive space where visitors can explore the company’s Super Hybrid System technology through demonstrations, interactive displays, and guided presentations.

“The OMODA JAECOO Carnival brings together our most complete line-up yet, showcasing performance and innovation at every level, forged by purpose to deliver outstanding performance and segment-defining innovation. Alongside, it previews two upcoming models — J5, Our Everyday Superstar, and the C9 PHEV, built with The Power To Lead — both ready to excite customers in Malaysia. Most importantly, this Carnival is our way of saying thank you to all our customers for their outstanding support, welcoming new ones into the world of attainable luxury, and educating the wider public about the benefits of next-generation New Energy Vehicle (NEV) technology.”

Emily Lek, Vice-President of OMODA JAECOO Malaysia

The SHS hybrid powertrain represents a key component of the brand’s future vehicle lineup. The system intelligently switches between electric and petrol power to balance efficiency and performance, adapting to real-world driving conditions.

The JAECOO J5 made its official preview as the event’s headline attraction. Positioned as a compact B-segment crossover, the J5 targets buyers seeking what the company describes as “attainable luxury.”

The vehicle measures 4,380mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,650mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620mm. It rides on 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels with 235/55 R18 tyres, combining stability with visual appeal.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 108kW (147PS) and 210Nm of torque. The engine features intake integrated intercooling and integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head technologies, paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission for smooth operation. Fuel consumption is rated at 7.5 litres per 100km under WLTC testing.

The five-seater cabin features full faux leather upholstery and offers 480 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,180 litres with the 60/40 split-fold rear seats down. The interior includes TÜV certification for pet-friendly design.

Technology features include a 13.2-inch central control 2K touchscreen display with WiFi connectivity, an 8.0-inch LCD instrument cluster, and an 8-speaker audio system. The vehicle also boasts what the company claims is the largest panoramic moonroof in its class at 1.45 square metres.

Safety equipment includes Level 2.5 ADAS features and the brand’s 540-degree HD Surround View camera system.

The OMODA C9 PHEV received its first public preview as the brand’s most powerful model. The luxury off-road SUV coupé features a triple-motor plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors.

The powertrain delivers up to 445kW (605PS) and 915Nm of torque under optimal conditions, enabling acceleration from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds. A 34.46kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery provides up to 150km of pure electric range, with total driving range reaching approximately 1,100km.

The vehicle supports 70kW DC fast charging alongside 6.6kW and 2.8kW AC charging options. The hybrid system pairs with a 3-Speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission optimised for efficiency and performance response. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 1.7 litres per 100km under WLTC testing.

Advanced features include a Continuous Damping Control active suspension system with five sensors that adjust suspension response up to 100 times per second. The system offers seven driving modes for various on- and off-road conditions.

Luxury appointments include an Auxiliary Lighting System highlighting exterior curves and heated, ventilated front seats.

The carnival continues through to 24 August 2025 at Car Park 3, Desa ParkCity, operating daily from 10am to 10pm, with test drives available until 7pm. Beyond the vehicle previews, the event features the complete OMODA JAECOO Malaysia lineup with curated test drives of the J7 and flagship J8 models.

Additional attractions include food and beverage offerings, children’s play areas, outdoor spaces, and the PingMing Market cultural bazaar.
