BYD Sime Motors has officially launched the BYD ATTO 2, a new electric compact SUV positioned as an entry-level vehicle for Malaysia’s growing electric vehicle market. The launch ceremony took place at Heritage Valley, Kuala Lumpur, marking the latest addition to BYD’s expanding lineup in the country.

The ATTO 2 is specifically designed to target first-time drivers and younger consumers looking to transition to electric mobility. The vehicle features a 51.13 kWh BYD Blade Battery with an NEDC-rated driving range of up to 410 kilometers, powered by a 130 kW electric motor that delivers 290 Nm of torque and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

“The BYD ATTO 2 is more than just a vehicle — it’s a lifestyle model built on innovation, designed to connect with a new generation of Malaysians. Innovation doesn’t end with the car. We’re rethinking how Malaysians can own and enjoy an EV by making it more accessible, flexible and convenient. We are removing major barriers for easy EV ownership with flexible payment plans and a partnership with Power Up — the first in the industry to offer mobile EV charging delivered right to your doorstep.”

Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Motors

The company is addressing infrastructure concerns, particularly for high-rise residents who may lack access to dedicated charging facilities. Basham noted that Sime Motors plans to expand its nationwide network to 60 BYD outlets by 2026, strengthening the EV ecosystem with local partners.

“With the BYD ATTO 2, we’ve created an EV that speaks to the needs of young drivers and first-time EV users in the country, coupling BYD’s innovative edge with today’s trend-setting lifestyle features,” Zhao said. “It embodies the spirit of versatility, practicality and style synonymous with our brand. As BYD’s pioneering youth-oriented model with all-new features and innovations, the ATTO 2 sets a new benchmark in its class.”

The ATTO 2 comes equipped with a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Interior features include synthetic leather seats, ventilated front seats, wireless charging capabilities, and up to 1,320 liters of cargo space with folded rear seats.

Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree view monitor, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The vehicle supports both AC charging through a Type 2 port at 7 kW and DC fast charging via CCS2 up to 82 kW.

The compact SUV is available in three exterior colours: Ski White, Breeze Green, and Harbour Grey, all paired with an all-black interior design.

The BYD ATTO 2 is priced starting at RM100,000. For the first 800 customers, BYD Sime Motors is offering an “Easy Ownership Package” valued at up to RM13,500, which includes zero installments for the first six months through the company’s panel bank partnership.

The package also addresses charging infrastructure challenges through flexible charging solutions. Landed property residents receive a free wall charger, while high-rise residents can access the “Sime Platinum 4+ Package by Power Up,” a 12-month subscription program that includes four mobile door-to-door charging sessions per month, along with car washing and tire shine services.

Additional benefits include a comprehensive warranty package covering the vehicle for six years or 150,000 kilometers, with extended coverage for the battery and drive unit extending to eight years.

The launch comes as Malaysia continues to develop its electric vehicle ecosystem. BYD Sime Motors currently operates 35 outlets nationwide, including 26 full-service centres that provide sales, service, and spare parts support.

The ATTO 2 joins BYD’s existing Malaysian lineup, which includes the ATTO 3 Ultra, SEAL, SEALION 7, M6, and DOLPHIN models, creating a comprehensive range targeting different consumer segments and life stages.

The public launch event runs from 25-27 July 2025, at Heritage Valley, Kuala Lumpur, featuring test drives, booking promotions, and interactive experiences. The event incorporates the theme “When Chill Meets Thrill,” which BYD describes as reflecting the vehicle’s combination of relaxed lifestyle appeal and dynamic electric driving performance.

BYD’s First Dedicated Carrier Vessel Arrives in Malaysia with 7,000-Unit Capacity

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD marked a significant milestone in its Southeast Asian expansion recently as its purpose-built carrier vessel BYD Zhengzhou completed its maiden voyage to Malaysia, delivering a full cargo of electric vehicles to local consumers.

The roll-on/roll-off vessel, capable of carrying 7,000 vehicles, arrived at North Port in Port Klang as part of a broader regional delivery schedule that includes stops in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand before returning to China.

The BYD Zhengzhou represents the seventh addition to BYD’s dedicated shipping fleet, reflecting the company’s strategy to maintain greater control over its supply chain as global demand for electric vehicles continues to surge. The vessel’s arrival underscores BYD’s commitment to establishing Malaysia as a key market in its Asia Pacific expansion.

“This is a significant milestone in our partnership with BYD, symbolising confidence and the growing potential of Malaysia as a vital EV hub. With the enhanced regional supply chain provided by the BYD carrier vessel, we are now assured of shorter delivery times, enabling us to provide better customer satisfaction, making this a win-win situation for all involved. This also prepares us to support greater volumes ahead, as we accelerate EV adoption in Malaysia through a dynamic ecosystem that spans retail, after-sales, and customer education as we make the shift towards cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable mobility. This is just the beginning, with more breakthrough innovations and strategic developments ahead.”

Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors, Southeast Asia, BYD’s official distributor in Malaysia

The dedicated shipping arrangement addresses a critical challenge in the electric vehicle industry, where manufacturers have increasingly struggled with logistics bottlenecks as production scales up to meet growing consumer demand.

“The carrier vessel plays a key role in heightening BYD’s global ambition and reinforces our ties to Malaysia which we view as instrumental to our growth in Asia Pacific. Built to enhance delivery capabilities, the BYD Zhengzhou ensures faster and more reliable deliveries directly to our customers here. As China’s automotive exports increase, so does demand for specialised carriers. By investing in our own fleet of vessels, we’re in a more secure position to manage global demand and critical transport resources through superior delivery stability and scale.”

Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia Sdn Bhd

The vessel employs a roll-on/roll-off method that allows vehicles to be driven directly onto and off the ship, providing significant time and cost advantages over traditional container shipping methods. This efficiency gain is expected to benefit both BYD’s operational costs and customer delivery times.

BYD’s investment in dedicated shipping capacity comes as China maintains its position as the world’s leading electric vehicle exporter. The enhanced logistics capability supports BYD’s aggressive expansion plans in Malaysia, where the company operates through more than 35 outlets nationwide. Gan indicated that this network will grow substantially, with plans to reach 60 BYD outlets by the end of 2026.

The arrival of the BYD Zhengzhou reflects broader trends in the automotive industry, where manufacturers are increasingly investing in vertical integration to ensure supply chain resilience. For BYD, which began as a battery manufacturer in 1995 before expanding into electric vehicles, controlling logistics represents another step in its comprehensive approach to the EV market.
