MCMC and Huawei’s Digital Leadership Initiative Celebrates First 50 Graduates

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd celebrated a significant milestone with the graduation of 50 distinguished leaders from the inaugural Digital Leadership Excellence (DLE) Programme. The graduation ceremony held on 17 February 2025 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur was attended by Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil.
The eight-month intensive hybrid training programme, launched in March 2024, was designed to equip leaders from government, industry, and academia with essential skills to drive digital transformation within their organizations.
“Through initiatives like the DLE Programme, we strengthen our global competitiveness while advancing ASEAN’s inclusive and sustainable growth.”
Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications Malaysia
The Minister praised MCMC and Huawei Malaysia for their dedication to the programme, noting that their efforts have been crucial in empowering leaders with the knowledge needed to redefine public service delivery and strengthen industries.
The DLE Programme emerged as a direct response to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call at the 2023 Malaysia ICT Summit to bridge the gap between leadership and technology. With an ambitious target to develop 300 Malaysian Digital Leaders by 2026, the programme has already completed its first chapter with 50 graduates. The second chapter aims to engage 100 participants, while the final chapter will target 150.
“We at Huawei are proud to be partners with all of you ‘digital leaders’ present today as we create a talent ecosystem that will propel this nation into the digital powerhouse of the region. Your capstone projects have been inspiring. Your ideas and thoughts are seeds of motivation for our development. As you learn from us, know that you are also providing us with a valuable opportunity to learn from you. We now look forward to working with you in accelerating digital as well as intelligent transformation.”
Mr. Simon Sun, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia
The programme covers critical technological domains including 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Green Technology, and Cybersecurity. Participants also undertook an industry visit to China, where they engaged with global tech leaders like Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI) and BYD Company Limited, and visited Huawei’s 1.4 square-kilometer Research Campus in Dongguan.
During their training, participants worked on capstone projects specifically addressing Malaysian challenges, demonstrating the practical applications of their newly acquired knowledge.
The graduation ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Capstone Report, which encapsulated the graduates’ collective learning and innovative insights.
By focusing on continuous learning, leadership, and innovation, the DLE programme is paving the way for a more inclusive, sustainable, and technologically advanced future for Malaysia.
