Lamborghini Urus SE: The World’s First Plug-in Hybrid Super SUV Debuts in Malaysia

Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur recently unveiled the groundbreaking Urus SE, the world’s first plug-in hybrid Super SUV in Kuala Lumpur on 4 June 2024. Fresh from its global debut at Auto China Beijing 2024 in April, this latest iteration of the popular Urus model marks a significant milestone for Automobili Lamborghini in its journey towards electrification. The Urus SE represents a historic achievement for the brand, featuring a new design, optimized aerodynamics, unprecedented on-board technology, and an 800 CV hybrid powertrain that builds upon the comfort, performance, efficiency, and driving pleasure of the Urus S.

“The Lamborghini Urus was an important catalyst for the brand when it first joined our product portfolio back in 2017. Today, the Super SUV has firmly established itself as our best seller, not just in the Asia Pacific region, but across all markets worldwide. The new Urus SE sets the stage for an era of Super SUV evolution in the electrification phase, and it is also a significant milestone for the brand. I believe that this car is an interpretation of the brand going beyond, and how we revolutionised the automotive world with our iconic Super SUV.”

Francesco Scardaoni, Region Director of Automobili Lamborghini Asia Pacific

The heart of the Urus SE is its innovative hybrid powertrain. The twin-turbo 4.0 V8 engine has been re-engineered to work in optimal synergy with the electric powertrain, developing 620 CV of power (456 kW) and 800 Nm of driving torque. This combustion unit is combined with an electric powertrain delivering 192 CV (141 kW) and 483 Nm of torque. Together, they produce a total output of 800 CV, ensuring an optimal power curve in every driving mode and on every surface. The permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor, located inside the 8-speed automatic transmission, can act as a boost for the V8 engine or as a traction element, making the Urus SE a 100% electric 4WD vehicle capable of travelling more than 60 km in EV mode.

Performance-wise, the Urus SE sets new benchmarks in the Super SUV category. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 312 km/h. These figures make the SE the most powerful Urus ever and the fastest production car in its segment. The vehicle’s weight-to-power ratio has been further enhanced to 3.13 kg/CV, compared to 3.3 in the Urus S.

The Urus SE introduces innovative technical solutions to improve performance and dynamics on any surface and in any condition. A new centrally-located longitudinal electric torque vectoring system with an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch distributes driving torque variably and continuously between the front and rear axles. This system works in synergy with a new electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle, providing maximum traction and agility whether driving on a racetrack or desert dunes, ice or dirt.

Aesthetically, the Urus SE redefines the stylistic canons of the model that shifted the paradigms of SUV design. The front section features a new hood with a floating design, giving a sense of continuity and amplifying the athletic style. New headlight clusters with matrix LED technology introduce a brand-new light signature inspired by the tail of the Lamborghini brand’s bull. The rear has been completely redesigned, introducing a Gallardo-inspired continuity that harmonizes the lines by connecting the taillight clusters with “Y” lights and the new rear diffuser, which gives the vehicle even sportier proportions.

Aerodynamic efficiency has been significantly improved. The new spoiler and diffuser increase rear downforce by 35% at high speeds compared to the Urus S, enhancing the vehicle’s stability. New under-body air vents and revamped air ducts channel 15% more airflow to cool mechanical and engine components compared to the original Urus. The redesigned front section and optimized aerodynamic underside have improved airflow management for the braking system, resulting in a 30% improvement in air cooling over the previous system.

Inside the cabin, the Urus SE showcases Lamborghini’s signature “feel like a pilot” design DNA. A larger 12.3-inch screen in the center of the dashboard features a new version of the Human Machine Interface (HMI) with updated graphics. The air vents, anodized aluminium trim elements, and new panel, seat, and dashboard coverings have all been redesigned. The mechanical pushbutton panel gives a more tactile feel, while a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides essential driving information.

The Urus SE offers unrivalled customization options. New 23″ Galanthus rims are paired as standard with new Pirelli P Zero tyres, available in three dedicated versions from 21″ to 23″. The colour range has been expanded to over 100 bodywork options, including two new launch colours: Arancio Egon (orange) and Bianco Sapphirus (white). The interior offers 47 colour combinations and four types of embroidery, with further personalization possible through the Ad Personam program.

The driving experience is enhanced by six Urus driving modes combined with four new Electric Performance Strategies (EPS), totalling eleven options. These include Strada, Sport, Corsa, Neve, Sabbia, and Terra modes, along with EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Recharge options. Each mode adjusts various parameters, including air suspension, steering, drivability, and the sound of the twin-turbo V8, to suit different driving conditions and preferences.

Lamborghini Kuala Lumpur is now accepting bookings for the Urus SE, with prices starting at RM 1,028,000 before taxes, duties, and customization. This launch not only reinforces Lamborghini’s commitment to innovation but also caters to the growing demand for high-performance, environmentally conscious vehicles in the luxury automotive market. As the automotive world shifts towards electrification, the Lamborghini Urus SE stands as a testament to how legendary brands can embrace change while maintaining their core identity, promising to deliver the exhilarating performance Lamborghini is known for, coupled with a nod towards a more sustainable future.
