Aero Asahi to Introduce Japan’s First Agusta-Branded Vip/Corporate Helicopter

Aero Asahi Corporation, a leading general aviation service provider in Japan, is set to introduce the country’s first Agusta-branded VIP/corporate helicopter, the AW169. This new light intermediate twin-engine helicopter is designed with a dedicated Agusta configuration, enhancing the operational capabilities and luxury transport options within Japan’s aviation sector.

The introduction of the AW169 comes after Aero Asahi supported a dedicated demo tour in Japan in 2023, becoming well-acquainted with the helicopter’s high performance, advanced flight and navigation capabilities. The AW169 features sophisticated avionics and mission systems, exceptional comfort with a customised interior, and an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) mode, which powers all main cabin and cockpit systems on the ground with the rotors stopped. These characteristics make the Agusta brand an ideal choice for VIP and corporate transport duties.

Scheduled for delivery in spring 2025, Aero Asahi’s AW169 will be equipped with advanced soundproofing, VIP seating for up to eight passengers, a Smart Cabin Management System with air conditioning control, and an entertainment system. The acquisition includes the exclusive Agusta For You service and maintenance package, ensuring tailored support and upkeep.

This addition to Aero Asahi’s fleet underscores Leonardo’s expanding presence in diverse markets, including passenger transport. Leonardo has maintained world leadership in the multi-engine VIP helicopter market, delivering over 900 helicopters of various models in the past decade, commanding over 40% of the market share by value. The AW169 fits perfectly between the popular AW109 series and the bestselling AW139 models.

Globally, more than 320 AW169s are on order, with around 170 units already delivered to operators in over 30 countries, logging over 170,000 flight hours in a variety of operations. In Japan alone, approximately 160 helicopters, including the AW169, are in service, supporting missions such as law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, fire-fighting, disaster relief, VIP/corporate transport, electronic news gathering, and maritime utility.
