We recently had the pleasure of indulging in a luxurious dining experience at the newly relocated BEAST in Bangsar Shopping Centre. BEAST takes the concept of a steakhouse to a whole new level, offering a unique culinary journey that blends classic comfort food with exciting global influences, and of course – glorious steaks!
The ambiance at BEAST is warm, classy and inviting, with a modern touch that sets the stage for a truly special evening. The interior is reminiscent of an upmarket dining room, with greenery and modern light fixtures complementing the white tablecloths and drapings. providing a nice backdrop worthy of Instagram. Tables are set a good distance from each other, which ensures that diners next to you can’t eavesdrop on your conversations.
For those who prefer added privacy, there are also two (2) tastefully decorated private rooms available, suitable for business dealings or small celebrations among family and friends.

The menu itself featured masterfully reimagined classic dishes, infusing them with flavours from around the world. This fusion approach results in a menu that’s both familiar and surprising, a true testament to BEAST’s commitment to culinary innovation.
The menu offers a wide variety of delectable snacks, starters, main courses, sides, cheeses, and desserts. For snacks, diners can indulge in luxurious options like Oscietra caviar with blinis or crispy Amaebi & Bresaola toast. Vegetarian options include grape & zucchini burrata tarts and Labneh tomato zaatar crisps.
Starters range from comforting classics like French onion soup to unique creations like Beetroot & Raspberry salad with Chèvre Snow. Seafood lovers can savour dishes like Cold Truffle Capellini and Char grilled Ocean Tiger Prawn. For a truly decadent experience, consider the Pan Seared Hokkaido Scallop or Pan Fried Foie Gras.
Main courses feature impressive options like Char grilled whole turbot with caviar cream or Roasted Lamb Rack with lamb jus. Indulge in Wagyu A5 Katsu Sando or a whole Australian Abalone served on Kombu Rice. For couples, there’s the Roasted Free Range Chicken for two or the Char grilled Slow-cooked Baby Lamb Shoulder, that are portioned for sharing.
The grill section offers a selection of premium cuts such as ribeye, striploin, Porterhouse, tenderloin and even a tomahawk (from Australia, Argentina, and Japan), which is served with your choice of sauce and delectable sides such as truffle mash potatoes, beef dripping potatoes, kombu salt fries and more.
To end your meal on a sweet note, choose from classic desserts like Crepes Suzette or Warm Jivara Chocolate Tart, or lighter options like Strawberry Pavlova or Churros with dark chocolate sauce. Each dessert comes with complimentary coffee or tea. If you are like me and prefer some cheese after your main, there’s a curated selection of three premium cheeses, or simply order the 3-cheese platter for variety!

Our meal began with a basket of housemade bread served with compound butter, and a delightful selection of snacks. The bresaola & parmesan “cigars” with aged balsamic vinegar and pistachio crumbs were a delightful savoury treat, while the grape & zucchini burrata tarts with yuzu lemon offered a refreshing and vibrant counterpoint. These small bites were perfectly paired with a glass of 2022 Belle Vignes Chardonnay Viognier from the South of France, a light and crisp white wine that complemented the flavours beautifully. BEAST has a selection of wines available to pair with their dishes so be sure to ask the staff for some recommendations.

As we moved on to starters, the culinary adventure continued. The chargrilled ocean tiger prawn with shrimp paste brown butter and kalamansi was a delicious exploration of Asian-inspired flavours. The tiger prawn was fresh and provided a nice hit to umami which was further enhanced by the sauce. Definitely a must-try dish if you like seafood.
The pan-fried foie gras with berries compote mille-feuille and aged balsamic vinegar offered a decadent and luxurious experience. Pan-fried foie gras is one of my all-time favourite dishes and I enjoyed the perfectly cooked foie gras with the mille-feuille (this is a creative twist as this dish is usually served with baguette or bread) and the aged balsamic vinegar and berries compote which provided a nice contrast of textures and flavours.

For the main course, my partner opted for the roasted lamb rack with cepe mushroom, baby turnip, ratte potatoes, and lamb jus. The lamb was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, with the accompanying sides adding a symphony of textures and flavours (yes, I stole a few bites of her main!). This was a hearty dish that will satisfy most meat-eaters!

I, on the other hand, couldn’t resist the allure of the Australian Black Angus grain-fed ribeye from the grill. This 300gm masterpiece was everything you’d expect from a premium cut of meat – perfectly seared, tender and bursting with flavour. Served with your choice of mustard. The culinary team at BEAST really knows how to cook a steak! I daresay that this is one of the best steaks that I’ve had in Kuala Lumpur.

We ordered two sides to go with the steak namely the sauteed asparagus and wood ear mushrooms with dashi butter which offered a delightful textural contrast, while the fusion tomato & habanero assam salsa added a touch of slighty spicy yet appetising intrigue. Both served to refresh the palate from the richness of the steak. If I had to choose just one side I would choose the tomato and habanero assam salsa as its piquant and appetising flavour helps you to devour more steak! A 2021 Belle Vignes GSM from the South of France was our wine pairing for the mains, its bold yet balanced profile holding its own against the rich flavours of both dishes.

No meal is complete without a decadent finale, and BEAST did not disappoint. We shared a delightful cheese platter presented in a mini “chest of drawers”, featuring a selection of three artisanal cheeses served with crackers, citrus compote, and nuts.

For a sweet ending, we indulged in the classic Crêpe Suzette, with its irresistible combination of brandy orange butter sauce and vanilla ice cream. A final glass of 2021 Blandine Le Blanc by Chateau du Cedre from Côtes de Gascogne, France, provided the perfect finishing touch to a truly exceptional evening of fine food and great service in an upscale yet welcoming ambiance.

We also celebrated her birthday with a cake from Ben’s by the BIG Group (a sister establishment under the same group) which is located right next door. In fact, if you can’t find the “hidden entrance” to BEAST, you can enter via Ben’s by the BIG Group (the friendly staff will show you the entrance).

BEAST is more than just any ordinary Western restaurant or steakhouse; it’s a premium and memorable dining experience. From the innovative menu to the warm and inviting ambiance, BEAST is an ideal venue for date nights, birthdays, or celebrations.
