The GlenAllachie Unveils Meikle Tòir in Malaysia

The GlenAllachie Distillery, known for its award-winning whiskies, recently debuted its first peated single malt brand – Meikle Tòir (Gaelic for “big pursuit”) in Malaysia, imported and distributed by AsiaEuro Wines & Spirits. This exciting new venture is driven by co-owner and whisky veteran Billy Walker’s passion for creating a peated expression, a rarity in Speyside.

GlenAllachie’s independence allows Walker and his team complete creative control. Every step of the process, from sourcing to bottling, is meticulously considered to optimize the final product. Meikle Tòir utilizes premium mainland peat for a signature oaky, sweet smoke flavour. Extended fermentation, precise distillation, and expert cask maturation further elevate the spirit.

From selecting the finest barley to patiently maturing the whisky in specially chosen casks, the Meikle Tòir team prioritizes unwavering dedication to quality and precision. Only liquids that meet the rigorous standards of Master Distiller Walker and his team are ever bottled.

The Meikle Tòir range features four expressions: The Original, The Sherry One, The Chinquapin One, and The Turbo. While all are aged for five years, each boasts a distinct character and flavour profile due to unique maturation methods and processes.

The packaging reflects the distillery’s commitment to detail. A hand-drawn illustration by Scottish artist Iain McIntosh captures the rugged beauty of Speyside, with Ben Rinnes, the area’s highest peak, as a central feature. Even the earthy colour palette, inspired by moss, oak, heather, and sky, hints at the whisky’s smoky character and the natural elements that surround The GlenAllachie Distillery.

The Original

The Original is the best introduction to the Meikle Tòir range as a classic single malt that truly champions the brand’s peated pursuit. Made with mainland peat from St. Fergus, the flavour contribution is sweeter than that anticipated of a coastal peat.

The Sherry One

For sweeter, fruit-forward flavours that mingle harmoniously with wisps of peat smoke, The Sherry One offers the perfect balance. A lengthy fermentation period of 160 hours resulted in a fruit-forward spirit that is then expertly matured in quality Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Sherry puncheons, imparting rich, fruity notes that work delightfully with the peat smoke.

The Chinquapin One

Offering a sweeter style of smoke character owing to the mainland peat from St. Fergus, this unique blend is aged in superior Chinquapin Virgin Oak casks sourced from the Northern Ozark region of Missouri, USA. The result is a robust mix of sweet spices and toasted nuts that are complemented by the sweeter peat smoke.

The Turbo 2023 Edition

Taking the ‘heart of the heart’ of the Meikle Tòir distillate – the spirit cut that contains the highest phenol content – ‘The Turbo’ features an amplified smoky identity. The 2023 Release is a combination of three American Virgin Oak casks and five Oloroso hogsheads that result in a multi-faceted whisky with a powerful punch of peat.
