Stepping into Luxury: A Look Inside the Newly Expanded Hermès Store at The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur

Hermès recently unveiled a newly renovated and expanded store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This marks the reopening of their initial store in The Gardens Mall, almost a decade after its launch. The new design boasts a spacious layout showcasing the house’s sixteen métiers.

The store’s design draws inspiration from a deep connection between nature and traditional Malaysian craftsmanship. The facade, featuring an intricate bamboo and cane assemblage, echoes local weaving techniques. Natural light, curved walls, and recessed lighting guide visitors through the various sections. Traditional elements like distinct flooring and partitions further pay homage to local architecture.

Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by the silk universe at the entrance. The perfume and beauty area follows, featuring an ombre lacquered wood backdrop, before leading to the homeware collections. A central lounge connects the leather goods, equestrian accessories, and jewelry sections. The ready-to-wear area, located at the back, boasts two fitting rooms.

The design, envisioned by the architectural agency RDAI in Paris, seamlessly blends local elements with the essence of Hermès. Locally sourced materials are utilized throughout, adding a touch of authenticity. The use of wood and a sun-drenched color palette creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Hand-tufted carpets with batik prints further highlight the collections, while walls in private areas are adorned with silk panels.

The store also features artwork from the Émile Hermès collection, including paintings by Paul Fleury alongside contemporary pieces by Thierry Ardouin and Jan Bajtlik. A unique window display reimagines traditional Malaysian “Wayang Kulit” puppetry with a modern twist, reflecting the 2024 theme “In the Spirit of the Faubourg.”

This newly refreshed store, established in the heart of the Klang Valley, invites visitors to experience the breadth and modernity of Hermès creations in a welcoming and inspiring environment that celebrates both local culture and exceptional craftsmanship.
