TUMI announced the opening of its first-ever flagship store in the Asia-Pacific region on 21 December 2023. The newly designed store is located in Omotesando, a major luxury fashion destination in Tokyo, Japan, and is inspired by the brand’s legendary 19 Degree collection and is the first of its kind globally. On 20 December 2023, TUMI held an exclusive VIP preview event to commemorate this significant milestone. Victor Sanz, the company’s creative director, Takumi Kitamura, a Japanese actor and singer, as well as TUMI executives, business partners, VIPs, and media and influencers from the area were in attendance.
The ground-level flagship store is distinctive and visually stunning. It is more than 2,000 square feet in size and has a number of fascinating design aspects. The 3D facade of the 19 Degree collection brings the collection’s iconic curves to life with over 250 aluminium fins and inside pillars made using an edge curve cutting process, as well as hundreds of LED lights. Perceptual artist Michael Murphy’s 19 Degree Aluminium sculpture, when viewed from the inside, gives the impression that a 19 Degree Aluminium piece is changing into the TUMI “T” logo.
All of the floor fixtures have sleek T-shaped accents, and the creative material selection includes marble flooring and a chic combination of polished and hairline stainless steel. Additional features include a magnetic wall with seasonal rotations for added dimension on top of the 19 Degree Aluminium Sculpture by Michael Murphy, a circular seating area with a full-height digital display reminiscent of an art gallery, and curved fixture edges that provide a warm environment.
“We are thrilled to unveil TUMI’s newly designed store in Omotesando. Not only is it our first flagship store in Asia-Pacific, but it’s also one of our most ground-breaking store concepts globally. We’ve taken the superior quality, design excellence and technical innovation that defines TUMI and created a completely unique design that is inspired by our 19 Degree collection. From the sculptural 3D facade to the upgraded materials, each carefully planned detail and element speaks to TUMI’s brand DNA.”
