The Balvenie is a single malt of exceptional quality made with passion, creativity, heart, and talent at every stage, from the manufacture of its casks to its liquid. To commemorate this, The Balvenie teamed up with local paper artist and sculptor Ceres Lau to bring to life the peak of ultimate workmanship, which is evident in the creation of The Balvenie DoubleWood 12, The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14, and The Balvenie French Oak 16.
The Makers Project exemplifies The Balvenie’s ethos of ultimate craftsmanship, recognising the passion, creativity, heart, and skill required to create extraordinary craftsmanship. The Balvenie launched a global effort to collaborate and celebrate workmanship as an homage to the common unwavering passion and respect for top craftsmanship. This is heavily represented in The Balvenie’s basic beliefs – workmanship requires talent. Ultimate workmanship, on the other hand, necessitates heart. The Balvenie truly represents this, and as a result, it stands tall as a heartfelt product.
Every whisky has a distinct history, and The Balvenie’s is one of prestige and pursuit. The Balvenie has stood strong on the whisky world stage for nearly 130 years. It is the only distillery where you can witness the entire process, from grain to glass.
The Balvenie is also the only distillery that possesses all five of the valuable rare crafts. Farmers cultivate and harvest barley in fields adjacent to the distillery. The on-site floor maltings, where the Malt Men transform raw barley into malt. Coppersmiths are those who create and maintain coppers. Finally, there is a team of coopers who manufacture and repair the casks that are essential for maturing The
At the heart of the entire process is David C. Stewart (MBE), the longest serving and most experienced Malt Master in the Scotch whisky industry, who has dedicated the past 60 years of his life to making The Balvenie.

Ceres Lau is a sculptor and paper artist from Sarawak. Her work is mostly inspired by nature, which inspires her artistic creativity. Her fascination with paper stems from the endless possibilities it provides. Ceres builds complicated and beautiful things from this humble and seemingly mundane material, limited only by the vastness of her imagination. The transformation of paper into art is a process she finds deeply satisfying, as evidenced by the excellent quality of her work.
The Balvenie’s collaboration with Ceres pays homage to Malt Master David C. Stewart’s legacy of six incredible decades, showcasing the importance of human touch and warmth behind their crafts. The unique installation titled “5 Rare Crafts and Craftsmen” celebrates the Farmers, Malt Men, Coopersmiths, Coopers and Malt Master.
“We are always keeping an eye out to collaborate with like-minded people who share our passion to create the extraordinary, and our partnership with Ceres Lau is a testament to this. We strongly resonate with her ideals for her brand, and are proud to provide consumers with this unique journey to step into a lifetime of memories and sample remarkable liquid made by heart through her unique craft.”
