Chalet Pop-Up at EQ Kuala Lumpur

For a limited period, one of EQ’s most popular dining venues will return to the property, giving older KL-ites a walk down memory lane, while offering the younger generation of diners a unique dining experience. Chalet, the leading Continental fine dining restaurant of the 1980s, will make a unique pop-up appearance from 24 July to 12 August 2023.

Chalet was originally a magnificently adorned, award-winning restaurant housed in the original Hotel Equatorial. Chalet was one of the most sought-after places for festivities and memorable events from 1973 until the old property was closed for renovation. Its white linen-topped tables, shining silverware, and flawless service heralded an era of grandeur and culinary perfection for Malaysia’s royals, socialites, and glitterati.

The pop-up restaurant at Chalet will allow for a return to beloved traditions, as well as the spectacle of crepes flambeed live tableside. Many of the chalet’s hallmark main course dishes, such as Émincé de Veau à la Zurichoise, roasted mustard-crusted rack of lamb, Swiss Cheese Fondue, Raclette Valaisanne, and Lobster Thermidor, as well as the characteristic Swiss Classic, Canard à la Presse, will be available. Guests that order the roast prime rib will be in for a spectacle as it will be carried in on a trolley and presented straight at the table, just as in the old days. Don’t forget to end on a sweet note with decadent desserts like Crêpes Suzette (highly Instagrammable!), Soufflé, and Sabayon.

To add to the nostalgia, Krishnan Ramachandran, one of the original Chalet chefs, will be on hand to offer up delicacies from the past, delivering culinary delights that are still remembered and much adored. The presence of the Sabayon team, who will assist in delivering this redux, as well as a handpicked wine list of unique, exceptional vintages and calibre, will modernise the Chalet experience.

Reservations are now open for the special pop-up event.

Alice and I were very honoured to attend the preview of the upcoming menu at EQ recently
Happy to see Federico Michieletto who is the Executive Chef of EQ Kuala Lumpur. The team at Sabayon will be assisting the Chalet team during the pop-up.
The truffle mushroom soup was really luxurious and hearty and I had to restrain myself from eating the bread bowl (I love good bread) as there were many other dishes to try that afternoon.
Girls will really appreciate this well-known dessert! Get your phones out and capture the flaming show as it is prepared tableside!
Alice and myself with Gerard Walker, General Manager of EQ Kuala Lumpur. Don’t forget to get a nice photo of the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur skyline before or after your meal.
As we were not in a rush, the EQ team gave us a little private tour of their magnificent Presidential Suite which is just below our lunch venue on Level 51
As EQ Kuala Lumpur is a pretty new hotel, everything was still in great shape! The view from the suite was pretty panoramic and you will get to view the city’s famous skyscrapers.
Relax and soak in the bathtub while taking in a splendid view of the city
You’ll have your very own dining room in the suite!
