Being automotive enthusiasts, MHB Digital’s Principal Photographer Andy Kho and I attended the preview of the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 on the media preview day on 3 May 2023. The exhibition with the theme of “Mobility Redefined” will be open to the public from 4 to 7 May 2023, from 10am until 10pm at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park, Serdang (MAEPS).
The Autoshow also returns with new feature additions – the Malaysia Bike Show, Malaysia EV Show and Charged. The opening of Malaysia Autoshow 2023 was officiated by MITI Secretary General, Datuk Seri Isham Ishak on 4 May 2023.
“I have also been made to understand that this year’s Autoshow is one of the strongest line ups we have ever gathered, with many new brands joining us for the first time. There is also an increase in the number of EV brands – both passenger cars and 2-wheelers. For the government, this is an important milestone, as it is a clear showing of the ever-growing strength of our automotive sector. Not only are we seeing more efficient, safer, and more comfortable cars, it also demonstrates the increasing demand for electromobility products within the domestic market – and we are all gathered here over the next 4 days to showcase them to the Malaysian public.”

At the soft launch/ media preview day on 3 April 2023, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said that Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy (“NAP2020’”) places a strong emphasis on developing new mobility solutions that are more efficient, sustainable and customer-centric. This includes the promotion of Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) plus connected and autonomous vehicles or Next Generation Vehicles (NxGV), electric vehicles (EV) and other forms of alternative propulsion.
The Minister also emphasized that to achieve Malaysia’s net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 as outlined in the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (12MP), Malaysians must carry an even bigger responsibility to ensure all our activities – especially transportation, are sustainable and greener.
YB Tengku Zafrul further explained that it is evident that the elements of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) have to be incorporated into businesses of all spectrum as a growing imperative that can drive a long-term value creation, encourage sustainable business practices and attract more viable investors.
“We know for sure that with electrification, vehicle components will be simpler in assembly, but more sophisticated in design and development. In order to ensure competitiveness in this evolving landscape, it is crucial for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and vendors to have the necessary support. This support can come in various forms, including access to technological expertise, research and development resources. Hence, to remain competitive, it is important for SMEs and vendors to stay updated with the latest advancements and best practices in EV component design and manufacturing.”
