EQ Gives Back: The Breaking of Fast with Children of Budimas

In keeping with EQ’s tradition of giving back to the community during Ramadan, the hotel recently hosted a popular Citarasa Nipah buffet dinner for 41 Budimas Foundation children and their carers.

The children were treated to a generous buffet spread of traditional Malaysian delicacies while a three-piece band called Luxmana Songkok played hit tunes on traditional instruments which even inspired some spontaneous karaoke from the children.

“EQ has a longstanding heritage of giving back, stemming from when the hotel was still Equatorial Kuala Lumpur. It is embedded in our DNA and is integral to the way we operate and do business,” says Walker. “It is even entrenched in our motto which is: We touch the lives of people in a meaningful way and are part of the social fabric in Malaysia as we’ve always been.”

Mr. Gerard Walker, General Manager

The Budimas Charity Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation incorporated  under the Trustees Act of 1952. The foundation’s goal is to help the welfare and well-being of orphans and underprivileged children in Malaysia by offering guidance and financial support.

The organization’s three-pronged strategy comprises the Budimas House Charity Fund (BHCF), Budimas Food Charity Fund (BFCF), and Budimas Education Charity Fund (BECF), three programmes that cover the three essential needs of a child: food, education, and a home. EQ is honoured to work alongside the Foundation and its trustees.

“We are impressed by the work that Budimas does in actively helping underprivileged children have a chance at a normal childhood. This is our way of saying thank you to the volunteers at Budimas and to put a smile on the faces of the children.”

Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur to Host Terry Fox Run to Raise Funds for Cancer Research in Malaysia

Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur is set to host the official Terry Fox Fun Run in Kuala Lumpur this year. Runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are invited to join the event at 7:00 am on Sunday, 7 May 2023 in support of Cancer Research Malaysia.

Participants may complete the 5-kilometre route at their own pace. Participants and the public can purchase a Terry Fox Run t-shirt via the Hotel website with 100 percent of the funds raised going to Cancer Research Malaysia.

The Terry Fox Run’s origins date back to 1980, when Terry Fox, then 22 years old and having lost his leg to bone cancer, ran 5,374 kilometres across Canada to promote cancer awareness and raise money for cancer research. He maintained his Marathon of Hope through rain, snow, and heat until he was forced to quit because cancer had developed in his lungs. After earning CAD 24 million for the cause, he passed away the following year.

Isadore Sharp, the founder of Four Seasons, vowed to maintain Terry’s legacy after being moved by Terry’s bravery and vision of a world free of cancer. In 1981, Isadore collaborated with several sponsors to create the first-ever Terry Fox Run, which drew over 300,000 participants. Currently, more than 9,000 Terry Fox Memorial Runs are held each year around the world, with Four Seasons providing support in various regions.

“Our Hotel team is thrilled to host this event for the first time and to honour Terry’s inspiring legacy. It is a privilege for us to support our local community by raising funds for Cancer Research Malaysia.”

General Manager Blaise Montandon

The Terry Fox Run will begin at Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Several employees from the Hotel will also be participating in the event.
