Mercedes-Benz Malaysia recently completed the fourth instalment of the annual Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week KL 2022 (MBFWKL), which was themed “Electrifying Sustainability.” MBFWKL 2022 saw the participation of some of the biggest and emerging stars in the local and regional fashion industry, including Carven Ong, Justin Yap, Joe Chia, and many more.
“Over the years, our MBFWKL event is an establishment of how design features as a nucleus in both fashion and the automotive world, and therefore it is only natural for us to move towards co-creating sustainability together in a creative and emotive manner. This is in line with our global commitment to go carbon neutral by 2039 as well as our commitment to fashion which spans over 20 years in the international arena. Through our ‘Sensual Purity” designs and innovative technology, we want to create an emotional experience when it comes to luxury and sustainability.”Sagree Sardien, CEO & President of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia & Head of Region, South East Asia II
“Design is deeply rooted in our core and so is sustainability. With our newly launched EQ range and our global commitment to lead in electric, it is amazing to see how these designers drew inspiration from our EQ models and is also leading sustainable change in the fashion industry without compromising the unique emotional and sensual appeal. We also want to continue creating a platform for budding designers through our Fashion Futures initiative and to further drive sustainable change.”Michael Jopp, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia
Through the Fashion Futures Design competition, MBFWKL continues to act as a platform for new and seasoned designers to exhibit their collections and inspirations. This year, five designers were selected and were required to create four sets of original ready-to-wear looks, while also having to integrate sustainability into their final collection, which was assessed by a jury of recognised industry professionals. The winner of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week KL 2022 Fashion Futures design competition will receive an all-expense-paid trip to an international Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week event. Aside from meeting prominent worldwide designers, the winner will obtain exposure and insights into the fashion business.

Mercedes-Benz uses an integrated design approach as a fundamental building block to display its products and brand to perfection and provide consumers a superior experience. Since 2009, Sensual Purity’s design ethos has developed steadily and now encompasses the bipolarity of intelligence and emotion, a crucial component of product designs. Traditional luxury is being transformed into modern-day interpretations, which makes it intriguing, real, and most importantly, enticing.
Mercedes-Benz actively strives to future-proof the responsible expansion of its fashion collaborations as part of its commitment to the long-term viability of luxury design. This is achieved by showcasing best practises and collaborating with artists that uphold principles like outstanding and intuitive design, creativity, and innovation. Mercedes-Benz has supported nearly 170 designers in over 30 platforms worldwide, including Milan, London, New York, Beijing, Australia, Prague, Istanbul, Berlin, and Accra, through its Mercedes-Benz Fashion programmes and creative collaborations.
Over 1,000 visitors attended MBFWKL 2022, which was held over three days at Zepp Kuala Lumpur. These guests included local designers, celebrities and socialites, fashion muses, key opinion leaders, as well as Mercedes-Benz customers and fans.
