We headed over to Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant in Mid Valley on Saturday, 17 September 2016, for the beer tapping ceremony at 7.30pm (Malaysian time) which is roughly about the same time that the first Oktoberfest barrel is tapped in Germany by the Mayor of Munich.
Oktoberfest was initially started as wedding celebration in 1810 to commemorate the union between Crown Prince Ludwig (who later became King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen at Theresienwiese (translated as Therese’s meadow / field) – it is for this reason that Oktoberfest is referred to by Germans as ‘die Wiesn’ or ‘the field’
Through the years, Oktoberfest celebrations have had a number of different elements and activities, including horse races, street parades (in traditional costumes), live music, dancing and of course the appreciation of authentic Munich-brewed beer. At the Oktoberfest celebration, each Oktoberfest beer operates a number of tents which provide different drinking experiences.
Today, Oktoberfest has evolved to become a global celebration with almost 6.2 million visitors consuming over 7.5 million litres of beer and more than half a million chickens throughout the celebration last year in Munich.
For the 7th year running Brotzeit brought Munich to Kuala Lumpur, with a celebration at Brotzeit® German Bier Bar & Restaurant Mid Valley. with typical Oktoberfest food offerings and the annually brewed Oktoberfestbier from the breweries of Paulaner & Hacker Pschorr, two of the six breweries allowed to brew Oktoberfestbier.
As Oktoberfest isn’t just not just about drinking beer – it brings to life Bavarian hospitality and their love of life, which includes food, music, dancing and having a great time. To add to the Oktoberfest festivities at Brotzeit this year, there will be an Oktoberfest band from Germany providing the tunes and energetic performances at Brotzeit Mid Valley on Friday, 12th and Saturday, 13th October 2018. Admission is by advance reservations only.
And the first barrel is tapped! All the customers and guests at Brotzeit during the barrel tapping ceremony got a free sampling of the Oktoberfest beer!

A proper Oktoberfest celebration must be accompanied by authentic food offerings and we had just that!. From the 22nd of September till 31st October 2018, Brotzeit will be offering its annual “Fest Platter” which includes crispy pork knuckle, pork ribs, crispy pork belly, garlic sausages, chicken chops & prestzels accompanied by sauerkraut and potato salad. The platter is priced at RM238 (inclusive of 6% SST) and is good for sharing among 4 to 5 persons.
