The nice folks over at Honda Malaysia passed me their (2017) Honda Jazz (facelift) V variant which was launched last year. As it’s been a while since I did a review of a Honda vehicle, I thought having a nippy and compact Jazz to zip around in for a couple of days would certainly be a nice change over my usual C segment car.
The (2017) Honda Jazz Petrol is powered by the 1.5L i-VTEC engine coupled with Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) which was developed under Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology. The engine provides 120 PS at 6,600 RPM and 145Nm at 4,600 RPM – which is quite similar to the City. According to Honda Malaysia, the combined powertrain in this “Energy Efficient Vehicle” certified vehicle provides a fuel-efficient drive with the “ECON Mode” enabled although I must say that I left it off most of the time as I prefer a perkier drive.
Aesthetics wise, there’s a New Chrome Front Grille; New Front and Rear Bumper Design, Dual Tone Colour Alloy Wheel, and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Features like the Push Start Button and Smart Entry; ECON button, and Reverse Camera also come with this variant.
There’s adequate space in the boot for luggage, while the ULTRA Seats can be configured to 4 modes (Utility, Long, Tall and Refresh) to carry long, tall or bulky items.

Inside, there’s the Paddle Shift which I love as I get to control the gears manually, Cruise Control and Half-Leather seats, touch panel auto air conditioning, as well as audio, cruise control and telephone controls on the steering wheel. The new 6.8” Display Audio is very fast and responsive and comes with Bluetooth and HDMI connectivity to your smartphone, while also being linked to the multi-angle reverse camera.
Safety wise, the New Jazz carries a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP safety rating with Brake Assist (BA) and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) are available across all variants. The V variant comes with 6 Airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) and Hill Start Assist (HSA). There are also ISO Fix points for child seats.

The New Jazz 1.5 V is available in 5 colours namely Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Carnival Red, Taffeta White and Crystal Black Pearl. The warranty for the New Jazz Petrol is 5 years with unlimited mileage at 10,000km service intervals at any of the 91 authorised Honda dealers nationwide.
The Honda Jazz 1.5L V retails for RM83,633.00 (OTR without Insurance). BTW you can view the maintenance charges online at https://www.honda.com.my/uploads/pdf/maintenance/eff_sept18/JAZZ_2WM_1.5_2017YM.pdf
The Honda Jazz is a popular Honda model here in Malaysia, and after my time with it I can certainly see why. It’s incredibly easy to park while the combination of fuel-efficiency, together with a large comfortable interior that can be adapted for different loads, coupled with an affordable price-point and maintenance costs makes this a value for money option indeed!
