[Event]
Joanne and I headed over to Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara on 27 June 2018 for their inaugural Fête de la Musique celebration right here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As a hotel brand that stays true to its French heritage, each year Sofitel Hotels & Resorts celebrates the Summer Solstice with its annual Fête de la Musique celebration across all its properties worldwide. Sofitel Hotels & Resorts acts as French musical and cultural ambassadors, giving locals a taste of the French festival with all its properties worldwide hosting unique celebrations that unite French elegance with local elements.
Fête de la Musique is a French musical event held annually during the European summer since its inception in 1982. The festival originated from musical idealism and a few connections, gradually growing over the years, and becoming the globally renowned event it is today.
This year, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara partnered with students from the Malaysian Institute of Art – a group of talented local performers, to celebrate Fête de la Musique. There was also a good looking French DJ that all the girls were swooning over providing the tunes after the performances by the students. The hotel also used the occasion to highlight ties between French and Malaysian culture, and celebrate the friendship that binds the two countries.
Great way to unwind after a long day!
The event took place at Nizza, the hotel’s sophisticated French-Mediterranean inspired restaurant that was transformed into a little playground for us to discover and savour authentic French cuisine and wine. Upon entry, we were given a “map” to where all the food stations were located.
We started off with champagne and canapes by the pool area before making our way to the oyster bar which had some really fresh and delicious shucked oysters. We slowly made our way around all the other stations sampling the different types of French food, while sipping on more champagne of course.
After enjoying the lovely umami flavours of the oysters, which we paired with the champagne, we had another seafood based dish – Bouillabaisse with Lobster Ravioli. There’s something really heartwarming having a steaming bowl of seafood broth packed with umami goodness!
We also tried the Barbaton D’ Agneau or Lamb Shoulder Stew cooked with duck fat, potatoes and carrots, Canard Confit Vol Au Vent or Confit Duck in Puff Pastry served with cranberry relish, and the Risotto Con Tartufo or risotto with parmesan cheese and freshly shaved truffles (yes real slices of truffles!) which was simply heavenly!
Some familiar faces were there to welcome us!

More goodies awaited us inside the indoor dining area of Nizza such as a huge array of French cheeses such as Livarot, Reblochon, Camembert, Comte, St. Nectaire, Beaufort, Emmental, Gruyere, Fourme D’ Ambert and Brie! There was also a Charcuterie board with cold cuts like turkey “Saichichon”, air dried beef, “Cecina Babilla”, and “Jamon de Pato” aka cured duck.
Heaven for me while Joanne attacked the desserts like the Crepe Suzette, Churros, Tarte Tartin, Lavender Madeleines, Creme Brulee, and Macaron tower!
I will be visiting Nizza soon for a food review so look out for that in the coming month!
