[Review]
MHB’s Kelly Siew, Andy Kho and I together with a couple of friends headed over to La Bodega in Jalan Telawi 2 one fine Saturday night to try out their Josper @ Work dinner as well to watch the Asia Beat by Lewis Pragasam band in action in the lounge upstairs. The upscale Telawi area in swanky Bangsar Baru suffers from a high turnover of restaurants, bars and cafes due to the high rental rates and stiff competition however La Bodega has managed to thrive through the years, becoming a mainstay restaurant, bar and lounge in the area.
We started off the night with dinner downstairs in the restaurant with a good view of the chefs preparing the food at the Josper oven which was relocated outside along the five foot ways every Saturday night.
Black Angus Tenderloin, Australia, 250g – RM110
Choice of side: Roasted potato / Grilled vegetables
Choice of sauce: Chimichurri Style / Mojo Picon Style
Tender and juicy and with a very flavourful sauce to accompany it!
Lamb Skewers – RM28+/ 2 pcs RM50+/ 4 pcs
Choice of Style: Moroccan Style served with Spicy Harissa Peruvian Anticucho served with Mojo Picon
These were tender and delicious with the spicy sauce on top providing even more flavours!
Chicken Wings – RM15+/ 3 pcs or RM28+/ 6 pcs
Choice of Style: BBQ Style / Korean Spicy Glaze
Who knew that La Bodega could make mean chicken wings? Tender and with an awesome Korean spicy glaze making this a very very good dish to go along with beer!
Chicken Skewers – RM18+/ 2 pcs or RM33+/ 4 pcs
Choice of Style: Spanish Style / Tandoori Style with mint yogurt
Josper Grilled Mediterranean Sea Bass – RM55.00
served with confit potatoes and Ajada sauce
Josper Grilled Squid – RM26.00
served with Italian parsley, garlic and extra virgin olive oil
Cooked to tender perfection. I so hate it when restaurants overcook my squid until its texture becomes like rubber. This one was beautifully executed!
Josper Baked Cloudy Bay Clams – RM32.00
Choice of sauce: Salsa Verde / Asian Style
Mop up the remainder of the very flavourful sauce with the complimentary bread served with the meal!
Chocolate Volcano
Molten-centered chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream
The girls really attacked the desserts!
Creme Catalana
The Spanish version of creme brulee and a real hit among girls!

Here’s a look at the full menu.
After dinner, we proceeded up to the lounge for the live band which is Asia Beat by Lewis Pragasam featuring various collaborative artistes each week (see the visual at the bottom of this post for the upcoming shows in May).

The La Bodega lounge serves many types of gin and tonic with quality tonic water (not the very commercial and cheap can types you’ll find in supermarkets).
Here’s what’s coming up this month at La Bodega Lounge in Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar Baru.
