Celestial Court at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur is all ready to celebrate the Year of the Rooster and usher in the Lunar New Year as Executive Chinese Chef Ho Boon has created specially-crafted menus and mouth-watering dishes for the special occasion. Some of the highlights of the special menu includes the special sliced Abalone and Norwegian Salmon Yee Sang, Crispy Roasted Chicken with Golden Garlic, Fragrant Golden ‘Jin Sha’ Style spicy slipper lobster, and Sauté fresh scallop with fresh lily pulp in homemade spicy XO sauce.
You can also select to have one of the restaurant’s four (4) exclusive prosperity 9-course set menus titled Abundance (财源广进套餐), Fortune (发财好事套餐), Auspicious (恭贺新禧套餐) and Luxurious (一本万利套餐) which are priced from RM 1,788 nett onwards per table of 10 persons. Look out for the Yee Sang with Crispy Soft-Shell Crab and Snow Pear served with spicy Mango Plum Sauce, Braised Sun-dried Oyster, Sea Cucumber & Black Moss on Garden Greens, Signature Roasted Crispy Duck with Five Spice Herbs & Rock Sea Salt, Double Boiled China Pear with Red Dates, Snow Fungus & Kumquat and more.
In addition to the Year of the Rooster, Dim Sum Chef, Ken Liew has also created a special home-made ‘Nian Gao’, shaped as Koi Fish that symbolizes good fortune, success, prosperity and longevity. It is considered good luck to eat nian gao during this time, because ‘nian gao’ is a homonym for “higher year”. As such, eating ‘nian gao’ has the symbolism of raising oneself taller in each coming year (年年高升). Celestial Court’s special home-made ‘Nian Gao’ is available in 2 different size packages – Twin Koi Fish priced at RM88.00 nett per pack or 1-large Single Koi Fish priced at RM118.00 nett per box.
You can also opt to have some of the chef’s favourite dishes via a la carte this Chinese New Year which are priced from RM48 nett onwards each. There will also be a Lion Dance performance which will take place on 3 February 2017 at 12.00pm at the Lobby of Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel.
Now on to the dinner.
Yu Sheng with Norwegian Salmon Fish with Assorted Pickled Vegetable and Shredded fresh Fruit Plum Sauce
The must-have dish at any Chinese New Year lunch/ dinner.
Roasted Corn Fed Chicken served with Spicy Onion Sauce
Being the year of the rooster, expect most restaurants to have a special chicken dish! I quite liked the crispy chicken skin and sauce in this dish!
Fragrant Golden Jin Sha Style Spicy Slipper Lobster
When they labelled this dish as “fragrant” they really meant it as this dish smelt as good as it looks! The spicy sauce was a great accompaniment to the juicy slipper lobsters!
Wok-fried Fresh Scallop and Shrimps with Macadamia Nuts and Sweet Peas
Oh how I love plump and juicy scallops! The shrimps were nice too while the sweet peas and nuts added a nice crunch to the dish. This dish along with the slipper lobster (above) were my favourites of the meal.
Braised Abalone Shell Meat with Scallops and Black Mushrooms in Supreme Oyster Sauce
Honestly, I really don’t know what’s the big deal with abalone. Give me scallops over abalone any day! Plump and juicy scallops just like the ones in this dish! There was also a generous amount of black mushrooms and broccoli accompanying the seafood making this a pretty nutritious as well as luxurious dish.
Seasonal Vegetable with Morel Mushroom Topped with Diced Seafood
Apparently morel mushrooms are pretty expensive! I liked the generous amount of seafood in this vege dish though.
Here are the various types of yee sang that you can have at the restaurant or take away.
Celestial Court will be open during the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration from 17 Jan 2017 till 6 Feb 2017 for CNY lunch (12noon to 2.30pm), and CNY Dinner (6.30pm to 10.30pm).
