MRCA Installation Gala
The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) Council Installation Night was held on 28 April 2016 at The One World Hotel Petaling Jaya with YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister being the guest of honour for the evening.
The evening saw over 1,000 guests from the various retailing sectors, management of shopping malls, major property developers, retail-related industries and financial institutions gather to witness the installation of the new president of the MRCA and the swearing in of the new Council Members who will be spearheading the association for the 2016-2018 term.
The newly elected council will be headed by the new president Dato’ Garry K.S Chua for the term 2016 to 2018. He was elected during the 19th Annual General Meeting held on 17 March 2016, which was chaired by Dato’ Liaw Choon Liang JP, the President 2014-2016.
Dato’ Garry Chua is the Founder and Group Managing Director of Rotol Group and is an established and leading name in the high-rise building industry while Rotol Food-Chain owns and operates a successful chain of restaurants such as Chakri Palace, Rainforest Raintree, Sanook, etc.
Moving forward, Dato’ Garry Chua’s theme for the term is “Enriching Members for the Future”. He says, “I believe that in times of great uncertainties, therein lies also great opportunities. Therefore I envision to enhance every participating member, equipping them with invaluable know-how and networks so that they are better prepared to handle whatever challenges that may be ahead.” Dato’ Garry’s wish is for members to embrace innovation, be creative, resilient and forward-looking, and continue to keep the retail industry dynamic, exciting and profitable so that the MRCA can be taken to the next level.
The highlight of the night was the inauguration of the new elected president Dato Garry Chua, while Edison Choon, also the organising chairperson of the night, was elected as the new chief of MRCA Youth Division. The event also featured some special performances, by American singer, Donne, as well as a combined performance of speed glitter painters and local violist Dennis Lau.
The event was supported by Maxis, Maybank, developers Bina Puri Holdings and Andaman Property Management, latex glove manufacturer Top Glove Corporation, Hap Seng Vehicle, The Store and 23 other sponsors from various industries.
MRCA was founded in 1992 by Dato’ Eddie Choon (Executive Chairman of Poh Kong), and is an association for professional chain store retailers and franchisors, with the mission of enhancing the retail and franchise environment in Malaysia and abroad. Today, the MRCA has grown to become an influential entity comprising of more than 300 leading retail chain stores operators as well as franchisors operating over 20,000 outlets throughout Malaysia.

KL International Dental Centre
Recently headed over to KLIDC to have my regular cleaning but this time by a very cute dentist indeed! KLIDC is located along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng in Kuala Lumpur and is a very large centre indeed, spanning the entire floor of the building. They also have another two (2) branches – located in Ampang as well as in Subang Jaya.

GoBear Launched in Malaysia
GoBear – a comprehensive and unbiased metasearch comparison site for insurance and credit card was officially launched in Malaysia on 6 May 2016. GoBear is an easy-to-navigate site that provides unbiased side-by-side comparison between different financial products for users.
GoBear is an internet company that specialises as an information platform and is not a seller or representative of products. This allows unbiased search results that are fair, simple, and complete to match the needs and preference of any individual or family. GoBear currently lists over 1,000 financial products on its website and will be adding more in the months to come.
“GoBear originated from the idea that people today want easy access to service information, and that customers should be able to compare various financial products easily before making a decision. This is where GoBear steps in, to provide a new experience that makes searching for financial products quickly, easily and transparently,” said Iskandar Ezzahuddin, Country Director Malaysia, GoBear.
He continued, “Today’s insurance buyers are mobile-first, multi-screen and social media savvy. To reach them, insurance companies will need to employ an increasing emphasis on simplicity in search.”
