Strongbow goes for RM19.00 nett per bottle

Tucked away in the neighbourhood of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (where I used to live in for 20+ years) is a very unassuming restaurant and bar called D Legends which opened back in 2010. Now I’m purposely not including any photos of the outlet because from the outside it looks like any other restaurant and bar but once you taste the food you will be amazed!

The outlet occupies a single lot on the ground floor and is along the same road as Mama Kitchen, which is behind the Starbucks and Secret Recipe in Taman Tun. The outlet is divided into different sections namely – dining area (with low tables), lounge area with sofas, high tables for drinks, and the bar. As we were primarily there for dinner, we were seated at the low tables. Although D Legends is both a restaurant and a bar, I noticed that the music was playing at a level which was comfortable for decent conversations. After all, you won’t want to be shouting at your friends like in clubs. This was a more chilled out place to enjoy casual dining or have a couple of pints with your friends.

The specialties on the menu are the pork dishes and with that in mind we ordered the three most popular pork dishes there.

Pork Satay - RM24.00 nett - Deliciously seasoned and tender chunks of pork on satay sticks with a rather unusual peanut sauce with bits of cili padi inside it, and a little salad on the side. The peanut sauce was unlike the normal ones you get when you order satay and owner Hans says that there's some Indonesian influence here. Nevertheless it went extremely well with the pork satay with the cili padi giving quite a nice bit of zing! Pork Burger - RM22.00 nett - This ain't your typical pork burger either! The patty was really thick and although firm was tender and had spices which gave it quite unlike any pork burger I've had before. Heaven is Pork Pizza - RM28.00 nett - yes this was our third pork dish as D Legends is famous for their pork dishes (although they have other dishes - beef, fish, chicken, and even butter prawns in their menu). With bacon and ham and smothered in cheese...every bite was heaven indeed! Now I know why they named it such. Churros - RM16.00 nett - my partner in crime absolutely loved this and she remarked that she will return if only for this and a bottle of Strongbow. Crispy churros which you can dip into a warm and rich chocolate sauce. If you have girls with you, make sure you order this dish. Tiger beer - RM12.00 nett (per mug) - D Legends bar won the Best Quality Tiger Beer award at the Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards - GAB awards 2014 which took place last week at the Majestic Hotel. The menu is mainly Tex-Mex although there’s a smattering of local dishes like the Pork Satay. Every couple of months the menu is revamped with some new dishes added in and some less popular ones being omitted. Of course the popular dishes like the pork burger, pork satay and the “Heaven is Pork Pizza” are mainstays as they are always in demand. I like how the prices are all nett and are pretty reasonable considering it’s located in Taman Tun. There is ample parking on weekends and on weekday nights.

For you drinkers out there, D Legends has an ongoing promotion whereby you can purchase three (3) pints of Guinness, Kilkenny or Heineken (and yes you can mix if you want!) at RM65.00 nett all night long.
