[KLIMS 2013]

Honda Malaysia unveiled its new 5th Generation Odyssey just two weeks after it was released in Japan, at the media preview of the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2014. The Odyssey was first introduced to the world in 1994 and in Malaysia in 2002, and Honda Malaysia is confident that this latest version of the premium upper Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) will cater to the Malaysian market demands with its distinctive and striking design, improved performance, superior space and comfort, enhanced fuel-efficiency, and advanced safety and security features.

Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, said, “Staying true to our promise to bring Joy to our customers, the All-New Odyssey will be able to provide a complete package to the upper MPV market. Building on its original design concept, the All-New Odyssey offers an unprecedented level of premium quality; combining roomy and refined comfort for occupants in all 3 rows with an exceptional smooth ride.”

The All-New Odyssey is powered by the newly developed 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC (175PS and 225NM) Earth Dreams Technology engine and Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) which  offers better output, torque and fuel efficiency than the engine of the previous model. Following the other Honda models, the Odyssey gets the ECON mode and coaching function to encourage the driver to drive in a more economical fuel-efficient manner. The ECON mode has the coaching functions changes colour from white to green indicating economical driving.

At the front of the Odyssey is a new grille with a chrome-like finish while the solid streamlined advanced silhouette gives it additional appeal and style. The pillars have been adjusted to give the Odyssey a more a slender impression, while maximising glass surface for enhanced visibility. The newly developed “Ultra-Low Floor Platform”, creates a spacious cabin equivalent to large-class MPV, with a higher ceiling and lower floor. The added benefit of this is the low centre of gravity and coupled with the enhanced suspension, provides stable handling while giving a smooth ride. Occupants are greeted by a stylish and classy interior as they step in via the power sliding doors.

The Smart Entry with Push Start Button makes entering the All-New Odyssey EXV through the power sliding doors easy, and this function also starts the engine with just one push of the ignition button. Driving and maneuvering the All-New Odyssey has been enhanced and its turning radius is increased while the turn circle is at 5.4m.

The Odyssey brings comfort to another level, having leather seats all around and Honda’s first Premium Captain Cradle Seats with Ottoman and Honda’s first 3-step reclining type seats in its second row. There is also extra foot room for the second row occupants courtesy of its flat rear floor, while the rear climate control switch is located at a position where operation from second and third row seats is easy and convenient.

The trunk space has been enhanced, making it possible to fit suitcases without any compromise in comfort for all seven passengers. The flexible seat configuration gives you the option when you need more capacity; and the special storage mechanism of the third row increases trunk space can be accessed by just pulling a lever. Entering and exiting the All-New Odyssey is now easier for older folk and children with the inclusion of the low floor and rear door steps.

The All-New Odyssey comes with electrostatic touch type display audio, which can be cooperated with a smart phone. The users can operate the smartphone by the audio display, or even transmit pictures or music data from their smartphone to the audio display, and play their favourite music through the MPV’s speakers.

The All-New Odyssey comes with advanced safety features like the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure that offers both self-protection and damage reduction to other drivers. The All-New Odyssey is equipped with G-Force Control (G-CON), and 6-Airbags that consist of Dual Front i-SRS Airbags and i-SRS Side Airbags in the first row and Side Curtain Airbags up until the third row seats.

The All-New Odyssey EXV also offers another Honda’s first in safety while driving – Blind Spot Information with Cross Traffic Monitor (CTA). The Blind Spot Information alerts the driver with a beeping sound should he/she not be aware of a vehicle that is in the blind spot when he/she wants to turn. The CTA gives off a warning whistle when a collision with a cross-approaching vehicle is predicted while backing up the MPV.

The high-grade variant also comes with multi view camera system that displays multiple wide angles which provides assistance on narrow roads and intersection with limited visibility for further awareness of surrounding and even safer drive. Parking large MPVs can be a pain but the Odyssey comes with the Smart Parking Assist System which automatically detects the parking limiting line and guides the All-New Odyssey into the parking spot.

The All-New Odyssey is offered in two variants, the high-grade EXV and the standard grade EX, and is available in 4 colours of White Orchid Pearl, Super Platinum Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl and the Glamorous Mauve Pearl.

The All-New Odyssey comes with a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage and a service interval of 10,000 km to provide the best ownership experience. In addition, the All-New Odyssey owners are entitled to six times free labour services alternating with paid services.
