Now as you know I’m doing a little circuit of the nice restaurants where you can bring a date to for a good meal and even some drinks. Those of you who really follow my blog would know that I rarely venture into Puchong as I like to stick to my PJ/ Damansara neighbourhood quite a bit but she stays in another part of town so we decided to try out somewhere in-between our homes.
Hence we headed over to Stadt German Cuisine & Bistro in Bandar Puteri Puchong for dinner on a weekday night. As it was in Ramadan, we waited for the mad rush hour to subside and made our way over at 8.00pm. The area is rather buzzing with restaurants and shops but if you don’t mind walk a little you can find ample parking just around the block.
.
Stadt is I believe the only German restaurant and bistro in Puchong. It’s laid back, friendly. and open atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for diners while I noticed that those who were there for the beers were congregated around the bar. The owner informs me that this place is also pretty popular with families on the weekends!Weihenstephan Hefe Weissbier – RM27.00++. The Weihenstephan Brewery claims to have its roots at the Weihenstephan abbey in 768, as a document from that year refers to a hop (a vital ingredient in beer) garden in the area paying a tithe to the monastery. A couple of hundred years later, a brewery was licensed by the City of Freising in 1040, and today’s brewery uses that date to prove that it is the world’s oldest working brewery. The Weihenstephan Hefe Weissbier is a naturally cloudy wheat beer which is easy to drink and goes well with dishes that have not too intensive flavours.Seafood Soup – RM7.90++. The soup was made from tomato puree and it certainly didn’t stinge on the fresh seafood.Mushroom Soup – RM7.90++. The mushroom soup was made from real mushrooms not the stuff you get in cans. In fact most of the ingredients in Stadt are made from fresh ingredients as the owner believes that it makes a difference to diners.Smoked Salmon Salad – RM16.90++. This was pretty nice although my partner would have preferred the dressing on the side as she’s quite a healthy diet conscious person. The smoked salmon lent a nice saltiness to the veges.Black Cod Fish from Norway – RM42.90++. I’m not a big fish fan but I quite liked the fresh cod which was covered in the lemon butter sauce (again if you are a healthy diet conscious person you can ask them to put the sauce on the side). The sauce was both refreshing and rich at the same time!Combo Mixed Sausages – RM48.90++. No trip to a German restaurant would be complete without a serving of German sausages! This is enough for 2 pax if you’re having a starter/ soup and dessert. Loved the spicy sausage!Honey-Glazed Pork Knuckle – RM43.90++. Another mainstay of German restaurants. We opted for the honey-glazed option as I’ve never tried one before and I must say that I really liked the sweet and crispy skin! The pork knuckle here takes a while to come as it is baked in an oven as opposed to being deep-fried like most restaurants that try to rush it out fast. Also liked the pork bacon on the side! The brown sauce will not be enough as it’s a huge knuckle but you can always ask for extra. You can also opt for the Original Style Pork Knuckle – RM41.90++ (no we didn’t have it but I thought I’d share the photo with you)Apple Strudel – RM8.90++ (ask your server to ensure the ice cream is COLD and on the side and you’ll get it like in this photos – trust me on this one). A nice sweet end to the meal!We managed to knock down these imported beers – Konig Ludwig (Germany) at RM27.00++ per bottle, Weihenstephan Dunkel, Hefe, Kristall which is a filtered beer (Germany) at RM27.00++ per bottle, and Leffe (Belgium) at RM18.00++ per bottle. Obviously I was feeling rather “happy” at the end of the night haha! We’ve had Japanese (actually our very first date), Italian, Western, Chinese, etc. etc. but this was our first German meal together!Stadt also has set lunches at RM14.90++ per set inclusive of Main Course, Potato Soup, Garden Salad, and Ice Lemon Tea and is available from 11.00am till 3.00pm.
