After the press conference in the morning (https://timchew.net/2013/05/31/hennessy-artistry-penang-may-2013-press-conference/) we grabbed a quick lunch then headed back to the hotel to get some much needed sleep before the party.

After a quick dinner we boarded the bus which proceeded to bring us over to the party venue which was SPICE Penang (the newly renovated and rebranded PISA) which was all decked out in the black and red. We thought we were early however Penang party-goers are really enthusiastic about big parties like Hennessy Artistry and started arriving at the event venue at 8.00pm. I guess it also had to do with the line-up of artists from Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore but in any case, the Penangites were all ready to party!

In the lounge, the brand ambassadors taught us how to make our very own Hennessy V.S.O.P signature long drinks which is basically a shot of Hennessy V.S.O.P. over ice then add your favourite mixer – apple, berry, ginger ale or soda water. As I’ve been going to Hennessy Artistry parties since its inception back in 2008, I have actually come up with my fav recipe if I’m not having Hennessy V.S.O.P. on the rocks, and that is adding one (1) part of apple juice and one (1) part of soda water which results in a really refreshing drink!

Kuala Lumpur’s Alex Asquared of Deer Society fame provided some chill out tunes in an elevated DJ console in the lounge area while guests mingled over drinks and played with the “Hennessy Moments” photo booths which printed out photos and uploaded them directly to Facebook.

At 9.00pm, the doors to the party zone opened and MC of the night Julie Woon welcomed guests before the party was officially started with a countdown which included a laser show and LED visuals.

Hong Kong’s Canto hip hop group 24HERBS, who surprised party goers by taking the stage from amongst the crowd. 24 HERBS frontlined by SIR JBS, LMF legends Phat and Kit, gave a really energetic performance and had the crowd bobbing along to their hit tracks like “Do You Know Me”, “Fashionista” as well as “Wonderland”, which featured Astro Star Quest champion Alexis Chean in the first Hennessy Artistry collaboration of the night. Honestly I’m not very much into the Canto hip hop scene but I did appreciate their performance and especially their cheeky hit “Hu Ge” which is basically about boobs and cleavage he he!

After their performance, the members of 24HERBS actually joined us in the VIP zone and they were surprisingly friendly and happily obliged for photos. Not every celebrity is stuck up!

Dennis Lau then took to the stage with his electric violin, with his rendition of Swedish House Mafia’s hit “Don’t You Worry Child” which was followed up by the second collaboration of the night featuring Australian DJ and Producer Andy Murphy took the decks, bringing in the beats, before Alexis Chean joined them on stage to provide the vocals.

Andy Murphy dropped a hard set of EDM and Big Room tunes for the next hour, getting the crowd raving to his mix.

Taking over from Andy was the pretty Singaporean DJ Nicole Chen, bringing her style of Electro House and Dirty Dutch, with a set complemented by sexy female dancers and laser projections.

Looking forward to the next Hennessy Artistry!

The lounge area became a chill out zone towards the end of the night for party goers to recharge before leaving, while complimentary bottles of mineral water were available throughout the night. There was also a taxi concierge for party goers to book a ride home at a special rate subsidized by Hennessy Artistry which I thought was very thoughtful indeed.

Remember – always party responsibly!

Hennessy Artistry at SPICE Penang was certainly a memorable party for me, and here’s something for you party peers to look forward to – the next H-Artistry event of 2013 will be held in November (my birthday month!) in Kuala Lumpur.
