Chivas 18 – Vivienne Westwood Dinner

[Special Event]

Picked up MHB’s Michelle Ooi and headed into the heart of KL on a Friday evening for the Chivas 18 Year Old Vivienne Westwood Limited Edition unveiling at a what was billed as a ‘super exclusive fashion soiree’ at Menara KH along Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.

Amazingly although myself with Michelle, Chammaine and Esther came from different parts of the Klang Valley we somehow all reached within a few minutes of each other. Yes that’s how bad KL traffic can be… Anyway I was glad to finally arrive and we quickly hurried up to the top floor.

Reaching the highest floor of Menara KH where a cocktail reception was held before dinner, we posed for photos and mingled with some prominent figures from the Malaysian fashion, media and entertainment industries, and prominent celebrities and socialites. This was a pretty exclusive affair as by my reckoning there were less than 50 guests.

After a couple of drinks and some delicious canapes we were ushered up to the transformed Flight Deck on level 34 of Menara KH which sported a circular fashion runway outlined by a (‘very white wedding style’ as Michelle declared) dining arrangement which afforded a 360 degree view including that of KL landmarks – Petronas Twin Towers and the KL Tower.

Here’s a little look at the event.

After a cocktail on the top floor of Menara KH we were ushered to the helipad by these lovely ladies
We were rather taken aback seeing this grand setting when we reached the helipad. See the table in the center? That’s where the girls and myself were seated #likeaboss
My glass of Chivas 18 was never empty throughout the night thanks to the excellent service by the wait staff
A photo before dinner, I took this one with Michelle’s cam
Then it was time for dinner. The dishes were specially selected to complement the Chivas 18. First up was the Light Seared Sesame Coated Maguro.

The bottle is unveiled!

Westwood used her expertise in tailoring and cutting, re-imagining the bottle as a figure to be adorned to create a luxurious and unique three-piece coat in her signature style. Vivienne Westwood has a reputation for audacious design and unparalleled craftsmanship – aspects that perfectly mirror the values of Chivas Regal 18 Year Old.

Dame Vivienne Westwood said: “I am English, so it is impossible for me to ignore British culture in my designs. It is really very satisfying to interpret some of my designs into other mediums beyond fashion.

“I love the feeling of tradition. The bottle proudly standing in its place and inviting us to hold it and then to pour: the colours of the blues on the label, so smart against the warm amber glow of the whisky. This smartness and panache only works when it accompanies tradition.”

In conjunction with the Malaysian unveiling of the Chivas 18 Year Old Vivienne Westwood Limited Edition, Chivas invited three high-profile Malaysian designers to create signature collections inspired by Chivas Regal and Vivienne Westwood. Beatrice Looi, Eric Choong and Joe Chia each showcased a collection featuring three distinct pieces along with a signature bottle sleeve in a fashion show coordinated by renowned stylist Cris Yong.

Here’s what their bottles look like.

Terence Ong, Sales and Marketing Director for Pernod Ricard Malaysia said: “Strong British heritage and luxury craftsmanship serve as the foundation to both Chivas Regal 18 Year Old and Vivienne Westwood. The work that our Master Blender, Colin Scott, puts into crafting Chivas Regal 18 Year Old is in many ways the same to that of a fashion designer – there is a true art to what they do. As the world’s No. 1 ultra-premium Scotch whisky, we are delighted to work with what many would consider Britain’s most iconic fashion house.”

It was a fantastic night and the girls and I really enjoyed ourselves with the opulent setting, good food, fashion show, entertainment and of course the fine whisky. Definitely an experience to remember. Here’s to more Chivas Regal events in the future!
