Somersby Apple Cider Launch at Carcosa Seri Negara 220612
Picked up Chammaine, Casey and Chloe on 22 June 2012 and headed down to KL for the media preview garden party of Somersby Apple Cider at Carcosa Seri Negara. We got stuck in a horrible jam but the girls kept themselves (and me) occupied with tales of ex-boyfriends and weird guys.
We reached Carcosa just before sunset therefore were able to admire the beautiful landscaped gardens while hurriedly making our way to the event venue.
Soren Ravn, Managing Director of Carlsberg Malaysia said during his speech, “Cider is rather new to the Malaysian market. As consumers become more sophisticated in their choices, we feel that Somersby offers a refreshing alternative to beer. Malaysia is the third country in the region, after Singapore and Hong Kong, to launch Somersby Apple cider, a flagship cider brand owned by the Carlsberg Group.”
“Somersby Apple Cider is perfect to enjoy during brunch, in the hot afternoons or as a happy hour drink. It is an easy drinking alternative to beer which you can enjoy with colleagues after work, at a café with good friends or even at lunch time. Basically, because of its sweet and refreshing fruity taste, there is no limitation or definitive time to enjoy a Somersby Apple cider, it is the perfect alcoholic beverage around the clock,” added Ravn during the Q and A session with the media.
I asked a rather cheeky question which was – why is Somersby Apple Cider served over ice? (This is because all existing ciders in the Malaysian market as served as is from the tap/ bottle.)
Soren explained that as Somersby is a sweet cider, it is best enjoyed icy-cold and as the ice melts it dilutes the drink releasing some flavours so you won’t get the ‘jelat’ or ‘muak’ taste.
My ex-colleague the FHM Malaysia editor Simon Burgess told me some time ago that cider was making a comeback in the UK and Europe served over ice as more and more young Brits/ Europeans perceive it as a hip/ modern beverage.
Lord Somersby, is a somewhat eccentric, quirky, loveable and full of life character. Unlike most brands that portray a more serious image, Somersby’s light-hearted, quirky and entertaining disposition brings fun, laughter and unpredictable moments to consumers.

Somersby Apple Cider is like drinking apple juice. It’s extremely easy to drink and very addictive indeed. One is not enough and I think I had at least 10 glasses that night. The girls enjoyed it even more than me which was quite expected. I’m certainly looking forward to having more during the next party. Actually I don’t think I can wait so I’m going to keep an eye out for it at supermarkets, and key bars around KL/ PJ.
