Here are the events I attended over the past week…

Oktoberfest at Tom, Dick & Harry’s Pub

Tom, Dick & Harry’s (or TDH as we regulars call it) celebrates Oktoberfest in their ‘Mou Man Tai’ way – RM15.00 for bottles of imported beer (before 8.00pm)!

It was a night of many different imported beers coupled with delicious food at my neighbourhood watering hole with MHB’s Mynn Lee and TDH’s owner Ernest and his wife Sook Ping who is incidentally my schoolmate from SMDJ. She also brought a long a few of her cute female friends much to my delight hehe!

Check out my previous reviews of TDH here – https://timchew.net/category/food/tom-dick-harrys/

So what if it's not all German beer but who cares! It's RM15 per bottle! Prost!
MHB's Mynn finally picked one!
A delightful little snack that goes great with beer - Pigs in Blankets
TDH's famous Pork Curry!

GAB’s Oktoberfest at Souled Out Ampang

In 1810, Oktoberfest started as a wedding celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The townspeople enjoyed themselves so much that they decided to have it again the next year and the next and the next. Over the years it has now evolved to become a festival celebrated by beer lovers all over the world as well as an occasion where friends and families get together to enjoy the best beers brewed by local breweries.

Guinness Anchor Berhad (GAB) kicked off its month long Oktoberfest celebration on 6 October 2011 at the newly opened SOULed OUT Ampang, Menara HSC, Jalan Ampang. This is the fourth year running GAB is organising the annual Oktoberfest festival in Malaysia with a bigger selection of award-winning and iconic beers including the official Munich Oktoberfest beer, Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier, fun-filled parties, special promotions and events for beer lovers throughout October.

The Oktoberfest celebration was officially launched with the tapping of GAB beers by Charles Ireland, Yap Swee Leng, Bernard Eloy, and Shirley Low from GAB, together with Fred Choo and Michele Kwok of SOULed OUT, paying homage to the traditional Munich Oktoberfest custom with a loud cheer of “Eins, zwei, drei, g’suffa; Zicke-Zacke-Zicke-Zacke Hoy, Hoy, Hoy!”

How can you get in on the fun?

Friends and families can get together at the selected outlet events and enjoy the all day happy hour promotion on GAB award winning beers – Tiger, Guinness, Heineken, Anchor, Kilkenny, Strongbow and Paulaner as well as GAB Oktoberfest special beers – Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier, Hopf Ice Wheat Beer and 111 Zwickl Beer. Aside from that, consumers can expect the full Oktoberfest celebration experience with the showcase of German-styled food, Oktoberfest games and dance, the traditional Oom-pah band and the appearances of Bavarian beer hostesses.

In addition to these selected outlet events, other outlets across the nation will run their own Oktoberfest celebration events, making this year’s celebrations more accessible to all beer lovers in Malaysia.

Other promotions

Bars and Clubs: With every purchase of a 1L stein of Tiger beer, consumers are entitled to take home a limited edition GAB Oktoberfest 1L stein mugs.

Supermarkets: Consumers who purchase their beers from retail outlets such as Cold Storage, Mercato, Village Grocer and Jaya Grocer will enjoy special promotional discounts.

Coffee shops and Chinese restaurants: For every purchase of any two big bottle of Tiger, Guinness or Anchor, consumers will get a discount of RM2. Consumers can also enjoy the flexibility to pair any of the two bottles between the three provided selections, to suit each individual’s preference.

A pretty sight greeted me at the door
The Oompah band which kept the crowd entertained and singing along to their songs
Went upstairs for the beer tasting session
Now I shot this pic from the front so it's actually reversed - the Paulaner is actually the left glass and the Zwickl on the right
Paulaner, Hopf, Zwickl (L - R) with some of the many flavours one gets from drinking the beers!

Here’s a little info on the 3 beers:

Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier

With 377 years of history, this bright yellow, pleasantly tasting, full-bodied beer with a rich malty aroma has been regarded as a beer that is synonymous with the world’s oldest drinking festival, the Munich Oktoberfest. With a hint of malty sweetness, this official Oktoberfest Beer comes with an alcohol content of 6%, providing a perfect balance on the palate and is best paired with roast pork knuckles.

Bottom-fermented, with an emphasis on hops, this beer is brewed exclusively for Oktoberfest using light and dark brewing malts. This seasonal specialty lets you take the beer-tent atmosphere back home. Its crisp yellow colour and hoppy malt flavour makes it hard to resist. The original Oktoberfest beer comes from Munich, and only from Munich.

The Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier is traditionally enjoyed from the 1 litre “mass”, and it also goes well with roast beef or chicken, barbeques or other festival and party foods.

.

Hopf Ice Wheat Beer

Known as the ‘hip-hop’ white beer, attributed by its cool Husky logo, Hopf Ice Wheat Beer uses ice conditioned wheat where excess water from the wheat is extracted through freezing, giving more depth to the flavour and body.

The unique process gives this celebrity beer its distinctive, crisp and clean taste; that is refreshing, mild and invigorating at the same time. Lively carbonization leads to a pleasant mouth feel with complex flavours.

This beer is pleasant and easy to drink, with an alcohol content of 5.5%. The Hopf Ice Wheat Beer is best suited with seafood barbeques and mild cheese.

.

111 Zwickl Beer

This interesting beer was first brewed in the year 2000 by the master brewers of Auerbrau to celebrate their 111 years of successful brewing history. This trendy and refreshing beer possesses sparkling full-bodied and full-flavoured characteristics, and has a mild yeasty flavour. This beer is related to Kellerbiers and is considered old style (from the Middle Ages), unfiltered, rich in vitamins and has natural carbonization.

With 5.0% of alcohol content, beer lovers will love its wholesome taste that is soft on the palate. Packaged with a fancy cartoon label and sealed with a unique ring pull opening, the 111 Zwickl is said to deliver great taste, exceptional design and modern packaging all in one bottle.

This easy drinking beer is best paired with summer salads, grilled seafood or chicken, cold platters and cheese.

Caught my friend Eevon playing the 'Eat the Pretzel' game. This is definitely not one of her sexiest moments hahaha!

Launch of Neverland KL, Jalan Kia Peng

Attended the launch of Neverland KL which is was formerly the Dragonfly/ Orange Club behind the Borneo Baruk Club along Jalan Kia Peng on 7 October 2011 courtesy of the nice folks at Carlsberg Malaysia. Neverland KL has a live band playing various hits nightly with a DJ taking over in-between and after the band’s sets.

The interior has been totally refitted and has a cutting edge and modern design!
The lovely Estelle (R) and her colleague (ok I forgot her name) hosting us at the Carlsberg table. I love partying VIP style!
Spotted some familiar faces there too - Angeline and her friends

Here’s the one that got away.

Now as there were so many events on, sadly I missed this one.

Heineken Green Room

The recent Heineken Green Room on Wednesday 05 October 2011 saw roughly 2,000 people make their way to KL Live for an incredible Heineken Green Room that combined the talents of Beth Ditto and her band Gossip, Australia’s Art vs. Science and a stunning turnout from local talents Mini Compo, Twilight Actiongirl and JeeHoe and Hype’embeats.

The surprise of the night was when Gossip lead singer Beth Ditto decided to do an impromptu walkabout in the crowd during closing number ‘Heavy Cross’. Leaping across the stage barriers she dropped down into the audience to greet many of Heineken’s music fans personally, hugging and shaking hands with dozens of them while the band attempted to keep track of her movements and keep the music on track.

KL Live was packed even though it was a weeknight! KL-ites really know how to party!
Obviously this pic would be nicer with me in-between Michelle and her colleague but lets not go there...
Check out the honeys!
If only I was young and carefree and able to party till the wee hours of the morning on a weeknight. Wait a minute...been there and done that!

.

Psst! I hear rumours of a huge Green Room/ Thirst event coming soon later this year!
