Food Review – bakita

bakita hosted Malaysia’s Hottest Bloggers to a night of food and drinks at their outlet along Jalan Berangan which is parallel to the busy Changkat Bukit Bintang in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

Good thing we got there early. It got busy as the night progressed.
This was pretty cool! Every couple of minutes the special deal changes! So if you're feeling adventures challenge your mates to drink 10 of these deals in a row!
I was down with a cold so the first thing I had was this home remedy - warm honey lemon + brandy. Worked like a charm!
One of our special guests of the night was the FHM Girl Next Door 2010 - Yvonne Sim
Nothing like cold beer after a hard day's work! Pictured here is Erdinger 1/2 pint - RM23, Kronenbourg 1664 two pints promo - RM60
Caesar Salad = RM18, + chicken tenders RM10 + fried calamari RM10. Ok usually people usually add on either one but for us to try we had the best of both worlds muahaha! If you're not a big eater this can even be your meal.
Halloumi Beef Salad - RM26. Halloumi is a type of cheese. Beef with salad is not common in Malaysia so I found this a refreshing change to the normal salads. I liked this one quite a bit - tender beef on a bed of veges.
Oyster Gratin - RM30. What's not to like about fresh oysters baked with cheese? Yummmm!!!!
Korean Wings - RM21 - the mainstay of barfood. Nicely seasoned chicken wings topped with a slightly spicy sauce! Meant for sharing but honestly I was tempted to keep this one all to myself muahahahaha!
Hoisin Duck Pizza - RM32. Duck on pizza? Yes it actually goes well! However I would advise you to ask your server to get the chef to go easy on the Hoisin sauce.
Beef Ale Oyster Pie - RM35. Now this is a traditional British dish but one that might put our Asian tastebuds to the test as we're usually not accustomed to eating beef together with oysters. I found it ok although I must say the combo was rather weird at first. You can opt to leave out the oysters though.
Salmon & Tobiko Pizza - RM36 - If you're in the mood for pizza at bakita I fully suggest you try the more unique one like this one rather than your usual peperoni pizza.
The Salmon Burger - RM33 - I'm really not a very fishy (yes pun intended) or seafood person so I thought this was ok. bakita makes their own patties so it's not the frozen stuff you find in supermarkets.
Nihon Dog - RM32 - the traditional hot dog with a twist! Love the crispy onion rings on the side too!
Almond & Cashew Crusted Chicken Cutlet - RM36 - Now I liked this one a lot! A lean but tender chicken cutlet on a bed of beans and topped with nuts to give it that contrast of textures in your mouth!
Palate Cleanser - we got this after the mains before bakita served us the desserts. There's definitely alcohol in this one but it tasted pleasant enough so none of the MHB girls complained. bakita wouldn't tell us what's in it though.
Fudge Brownie - RM16 - you won't want to share this one especially if you're a chocolate lover. Ashley (our UniFi girl) certainly didn't.
Key Lime Tart - RM12 - not bad. Worth a try especially if you're a fan of sour desserts.
Blueberry Cheesecake - RM18 - this was good! Creamy cheese balanced with the sweet and sourish taste of the berries.
Green Tea Brulee - RM10 - different from the normal creme brulee. Use the biscotti to scoop up the creme brulee!
Caramel & Pecan Sundae - RM16 - Yvonne really liked this one and so did I! The caramel is served separate so you get to choose just how much caramel to pour on top.
Lychee Martini - RM26 - Erica's fav as usual. Good cocktail for girls but I wouldn't be caught dead holding one of these.
Strawbaileys - RM26 - Baileys with strawberries. Another fav with the girls well except Naomi who I suspect OD-ed on Baileys in the past. Btw how does one OD on Baileys? Lol
The girls with Chef Basira. She's really young but very talented!
Two Kronenbourg 1664 girls added some red, white and blue to our group pic!

bakita is a nice place to have some drinks after a long workday in KL city. The food might be a tad on the pricey side but it’s not your ordinary pub grub therefore you’re paying for restaurant quality food at a bar (if that makes sense, ok so I had a few drinks before writing this post). Ok picture this, you go to a normal pub and the only thing to eat is on the lok lok van parked outside. At bakita you get good food together with nice ambiance and you can enjoy a huge selection of draught and bottled beers, wines and liquor. Makes sense?
