A Culinary Journey to Thailand: The Living Room at The Westin Kuala Lumpur Welcomes Guest Chef Surachai Pleanbumrung

The Living Room, the Westin Kuala Lumpur’s renowned all-day dining restaurant, is hosting a tantalizing Thai food promotion this June 2024 featuring guest chef Surachai Pleanbumrung, a culinary maestro from the Royal Orchid Sheraton Bangkok. This exciting event promises to transport your taste buds to the heart of Thailand with a delectable array of authentic dishes prepared using fresh ingredients and time-honoured recipes.

From 21 to 29 June 2024, Chef Surachai will be gracing The Living Room’s kitchen, offering diners a chance to indulge in a true taste of Thailand. His specially curated menu boasts over 20 dishes, ensuring a delightful variety throughout the week. The rotating selection on the buffet line allows guests to experience a wider range of flavours, while maintaining the freshness and quality associated with Thai cuisine.

The culinary journey begins with a selection of appetizers. One option is the Ma Hor (Galloping Horses), a unique starter featuring sweet and sticky caramelized minced chicken atop fresh pineapple or tangerine segments. This dish is named for King Rama VII’s horsemanship and offers a glimpse into the sweet, savoury, and slightly spicy notes that define Thai cuisine.

The Som Tam (Green Papaya Salad) is a refreshing palate cleanser. This vibrant salad features shredded green papaya tossed with chilies, tomatoes, garlic, and a tangy lime dressing. It offers a delightful balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavours.

The Phad Thai Goong Sod (Stir-fried Noodles with Prawns) is a classic Thai dish that showcases perfectly stir-fried rice noodles tossed with succulent shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts, and peanuts, all bathed in a flavorful tamarind sauce.

The Tom Kha Gai (Thai Coconut Chicken Soup) is a rich and flavourful soup that features tender chicken simmered in a creamy coconut milk broth infused with lemongrass and galangal, a fragrant Thai ginger root. The result is a heartwarming and satisfying soup.

No Thai food experience is complete without dessert. The Khao Niew Mamuang (Mango Sticky Rice) is a quintessential Thai dessert. This dish features sweet sticky rice served with slices of perfectly ripe mango and a creamy coconut milk sauce. The contrasting textures and harmonious blend of sweetness make it a delightful way to end a meal.
