Lufthansa marked the launch of its new nonstop service between Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt on Monday, 26 October 2026, linking Malaysia’s capital with the airline’s main hub in Germany. The year-round service began with departures from Frankfurt on 25 October 2026 and initially operates five days a week. It is flown by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with 287 seats in three travel classes, fitted with Lufthansa’s new Allegris cabin. The airline lists 28 seats in Business Class, 28 in Premium Economy and 231 in Economy.

Flight LH705 departs Kuala Lumpur at 11:55 p.m. and arrives in Frankfurt at 6:00 a.m. the following morning. The return flight, LH704, leaves Frankfurt at 9:30 p.m. and lands in Kuala Lumpur at 4:40 p.m. the next day. All times are local. Lufthansa said the schedules are coordinated with its wider Frankfurt hub network, so passengers from Malaysia can connect to destinations across Europe, North America and other international markets.

“Today marks an important milestone for Lufthansa and our customers in Malaysia. With the launch of our nonstop service between Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt, we are strengthening the connection between Malaysia and Europe while bringing our latest long-haul aircraft and Allegris travel experience to the market. Malaysia is an important economic centre in Southeast Asia and a growing destination for international business and investment, while its rich cultural heritage and diverse attractions make it equally appealing to leisure travellers. Our new nonstop service connects these two worlds, making travel between Malaysia and Europe more convenient and providing our customers with an enhanced long-haul travel experience.”

Kuala Lumpur becomes the fourth Southeast Asian destination in Lufthansa’s network, which also includes Bangkok, Singapore and Phuket. The airline said the launch is part of a wider expansion of its premium long-haul product during the Winter 2026 schedule, when Allegris is being introduced on a number of new destinations from its Frankfurt and Munich hubs. Lufthansa said Allegris was introduced to offer greater choice and personalisation across all travel classes.

The route also reflects the close links between Malaysia and Germany. Malaysia welcomed 42.2 million international visitors in 2025, according to government figures, an 11.2 per cent rise on 2024 and the highest total in Southeast Asia. Germany has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner among European Union member states since 2000, and more than 700 German companies operate in Malaysia.

“In line with the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 campaign, we welcome Lufthansa’s new nonstop service between Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt, which further enhances Malaysia’s connectivity with Germany and the wider European market. Strong air connectivity is fundamental to tourism growth, strengthening economic links and fostering greater cultural exchange. This direct connection provides greater convenience for travellers from Germany and across Europe, while supporting our efforts to attract high-value visitors and showcase Malaysia’s diverse attractions, rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality.”

Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture

Allegris is Lufthansa’s newer long-haul cabin, being rolled out progressively across its fleet. The airline’s first Allegris-fitted Boeing 787-9 entered service on Oct. 9, 2025, on the Frankfurt–Toronto route. At that stage Lufthansa said Business Class Suites, Premium Economy and Economy were available to book, while certification of the remaining Business Class seats was under way and expected to finish by the end of 2025. The airline said the early introduction allowed it to train and certify a large number of cockpit crews on the new type. It also said it expected more than 20 Allegris Dreamliners to be in service by the end of the 2026 summer schedule. The 787-9 has three travel classes and no First Class cabin.

For travellers in Malaysia, the most immediate benefit is simplicity. A nonstop flight to Frankfurt removes the intermediate stop that many journeys to Germany and the rest of Europe have involved, and the timings suit the route. The 11:55 p.m. departure from Kuala Lumpur lets passengers finish a full day, sleep on board and arrive in Frankfurt at 6:00 a.m., as the hub begins its morning connections. Allowing for the time difference, the published times work out at roughly 12 to 13 hours in the air. In the other direction, the 4:40 p.m. arrival in Kuala Lumpur leaves the evening free.

The cabin may matter most on an overnight flight, when space, privacy and sleep shape how a traveller feels on arrival. Lufthansa describes Allegris as offering greater choice and personalisation in every class. The three-class layout gives passengers a range of options, from Economy to Business Class. The 28 Premium Economy seats offer a step up for those who want more room without moving to the front of the aircraft.

Connections extend the route’s usefulness beyond Frankfurt. Families visiting relatives in Europe, students heading to university and holidaymakers planning a longer trip can all use the Frankfurt hub for onward flights across Europe and North America. For visitors from Germany and the rest of Europe, a direct arrival gives an easier start to a Malaysian holiday, in a year when the country is encouraging more international travellers. Passengers should note that Allegris is being introduced progressively, so cabin features and seat availability can vary by aircraft.
