BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Malaysia, has introduced the 2026 BYD SEALION 7, adding a new Dynamic variant to the electric SUV’s lineup alongside updated Premium and Performance models with increased battery capacity and faster charging.

The refreshed lineup now comprises three variants — Dynamic, Premium and Performance — with the Premium and Performance models receiving larger batteries and higher charging speeds compared with the previous model year. The company said the changes are intended to extend driving range, reduce charging time and widen the price range at which the SUV is available.

The BYD SEALION 7 debuted in Malaysia in 2024 and was, according to BYD Sime Motors, the top-selling D-segment electric SUV in the country in 2025, with more than 6,300 units delivered to customers nationwide. At its original launch, the vehicle carried the tagline “Pinnacle of Performance, Redefined for Tomorrow.” For the 2026 model year, BYD Sime Motors said that tagline has been revised to “Pinnacle of Performance, Redefined FURTHER for Tomorrow,” a change the company said reflects updates made across the lineup since the vehicle’s introduction.

BYD Sime Motors described the updates across four areas. In terms of range, the company said the enhanced Premium and Performance variants can travel farther on a single charge than their prior versions, which it said benefits both daily commuting and longer trips. On charging, the company said faster charging speeds on the Premium and Performance variants are intended to reduce the time customers spend charging their vehicles. On accessibility, the company pointed to the introduction of the Dynamic variant, which is priced lower than the Premium and Performance models, as a way to widen the range of customers who can afford the SUV. And on service support, the company cited its expanding service network and aftersales operations in Malaysia, which it said now includes 44 sales and marketing outlets, 28 aftersales facilities and 12 body and paint centres nationwide.

The Dynamic variant is priced at RM163,800. BYD Sime Motors said the first 300 customers who book the Dynamic variant will be able to purchase it at RM159,800, a saving of RM4,000. The Premium variant is priced at RM188,800 and the Performance variant at RM203,800. The company said additional launch promotions are available across all three variants.

The Dynamic variant is offered in Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, Shark Grey and Cosmos Black. The Premium variant is available in those same four colours plus a new colour, Ultraviolet, which BYD Sime Motors introduced with the 2026 lineup. The Performance variant is offered in Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, Shark Grey and Cosmos Black. All variants come with a black interior.

All three variants use BYD’s Blade Battery technology, a lithium iron phosphate battery design the company has used across its vehicle lineup, along with a suite of driver-assistance features and connectivity systems that BYD Sime Motors said are standard across the range, though the company’s materials did not break down which specific advanced driver-assistance functions are included on each variant. The vehicles are built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture, which the company said is designed to improve efficiency, low-temperature performance and structural rigidity.

BYD has marketed the Blade Battery as a lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, battery format that differs structurally from conventional battery cell packaging used by some other manufacturers. LFP chemistry is generally understood in the industry to offer different trade-offs compared with nickel-based battery chemistries, including differences in energy density, thermal behaviour and long-term degradation characteristics. BYD has used the Blade Battery across multiple vehicle lines in various markets since introducing the format.

The Dynamic variant uses a 71.8 kilowatt-hour Blade Battery and a rear-wheel-drive configuration, producing 170 kilowatts of power and 380 newton-metres of torque. BYD Sime Motors said the variant has a driving range of 520 kilometres under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test standard and accelerates from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 7.3 seconds. Its DC fast-charging capability is rated at up to 110 kilowatts.

The Premium variant now uses a 91.39 kilowatt-hour Blade Battery, up from 82.56 kilowatt-hours in the previous version, which BYD Sime Motors said increases the NEDC-rated driving range from 567 kilometres to 650 kilometres. The variant’s DC fast-charging capability has been increased from 150 kilowatts to 230 kilowatts. The Premium variant is rear-wheel drive, producing 230 kilowatts of power and 380 newton-metres of torque, with a zero-to-100-kilometre-per-hour time of 6.9 seconds.

The Performance variant is all-wheel drive, producing 390 kilowatts of power and 690 newton-metres of torque. BYD Sime Motors said it accelerates from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in 4.5 seconds and has a driving range of up to 600 kilometres under the NEDC standard. Like the Premium variant, it uses a 91.39 kilowatt-hour Blade Battery with 230-kilowatt DC fast-charging capability. The Performance variant is distinguished by red brake calipers and 245/45 R20 wheels, compared with smaller wheels on the other two variants.

Shared specifications across the lineup include double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, nine airbags, a 58-litre front trunk, a 4,830-millimetre overall length, a 1,925-millimetre width, a 1,620-millimetre height and a 2,930-millimetre wheelbase. Rear trunk capacity is 500 litres on the Dynamic variant and 520 litres on the Premium variant; BYD Sime Motors’ materials did not specify a figure for the Performance variant. The Dynamic and Premium variants are fitted with 235/50 R19 tyres at the front and 255/45 R19 tyres at the rear, while the Performance variant is fitted with larger 245/45 R20 tyres. All variants include a 15.6-inch center touchscreen and a digital instrument panel, along with ventilated front seats. The driver’s seat is 8-way power adjustable across all variants, with the Premium variant adding 4-way lumbar adjustment and a power-adjustable leg rest. The front passenger seat is 6-way power adjustable.

In conjunction with the launch, BYD Sime Motors is offering a package of incentives that vary by variant. Dynamic variant customers can choose between a complimentary wall-mounted home charging unit or the RM4,000 discount available to the first 300 buyers. Premium variant customers receive a complimentary wall-mounted charging unit along with a RM3,888 trade-in bonus, referred to by the company as an “overtrade bonus.” Performance variant customers receive the same complimentary charging unit along with a RM2,888 trade-in bonus.

BYD Sime Motors is holding a roadshow called “Beyond Your Drive” at GF Luxe, near Parkson in 1 Utama Shopping Centre, from 30 July to 2 August 2026, daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The company said customers who book any BYD vehicle during the roadshow will receive RM200 in charging credits as a booking incentive. The 2026 BYD SEALION 7 is also available for viewing and purchase at BYD showrooms nationwide.

The 2026 BYD SEALION 7 comes with a six-year or 150,000-kilometre vehicle warranty, an eight-year or 160,000-kilometre warranty on the high-voltage Blade Battery, and an eight-year or 160,000-kilometre warranty on the drive unit. BYD Sime Motors said the vehicle also comes with a Vehicle-to-Load adapter, which allows the car’s battery to power external devices such as appliances or other electronics, and a Type 2 charging cable fitted with a three-pin plug, allowing owners to charge the vehicle from a standard household power outlet in addition to dedicated charging equipment.

The introduction of the Dynamic variant effectively lowers the entry price for the BYD SEALION 7 lineup, giving Malaysian buyers a way to access the SUV’s electric platform and core technology — including its Blade Battery and driver-assistance systems — without paying for the higher-output Premium or Performance configurations. For consumers who don’t need the fastest acceleration or the longest range, that can mean a lower purchase price without giving up features like the vehicle’s touchscreen, digital instrument cluster and safety systems, which are shared across the lineup. At the same time, buyers should note that the Dynamic variant has a shorter driving range, less power and a slower charging speed than the Premium and Performance variants, a trade-off worth weighing against how the vehicle will actually be used day to day, particularly for households that regularly take longer road trips or live in areas with less charging infrastructure.

The battery and charging upgrades to the Premium and Performance variants address two of the most common concerns EV buyers raise: range and charging time. An increase in DC fast-charging capacity from 150 kilowatts to 230 kilowatts, for example, can meaningfully cut the time needed to top up a battery on a long trip, provided a charging station capable of delivering that power is available.

The warranty terms — six years or 150,000 kilometres on the vehicle, and eight years or 160,000 kilometres on the battery and drive unit — are also worth noting for buyers comparing electric SUVs, since battery longevity and replacement cost remain a significant consideration for EV ownership and can vary meaningfully between manufacturers.
