By day three, I was really enjoying driving the MG Cyberster. The incredible acceleration, the precise handling, and the superior sound system made driving such a pleasure, even in traffic! After lunch and coffee at Florentine (read part 4 if you haven’t yet), I headed over for a pickleball session with some talents from my digital and social media marketing agency, MHB Digital (http://mhbdigital.com), and to no surprise (the car was designed to be a show-stopper after all), the MG Cyberster garnered loads of attention from our talents and from other players at the centre.
MG, short for Morris Garages, is a British marque with a rich heritage dating back to 1924. Founded in Oxford by Cecil Kimber, MG initially built its reputation through sporty, affordable cars known for their driving enjoyment. The brand also has strong ties to motorsport, with early successes in racing helping to establish its performance credentials and enthusiastic following. Over the decades, MG’s identity as a maker of classic British sports cars became iconic worldwide. Today’s MG Cyberster carries forward this legacy by combining the marque’s traditional roadster spirit with contemporary electric vehicle technology, reflecting both its historical roots and future-focused ambitions.
The MG Cyberster marks a compelling entry into the world of sustainable performance, signalling that eco-friendly driving and exhilarating experiences can seamlessly coexist. Electrifying the classic roadster spirit, the Cyberster ditches tailpipe emissions entirely, offering Malaysian drivers a guilt-free way to enjoy open-top motoring. As cities like Kuala Lumpur grapple with air quality challenges, the shift to fully electric vehicles has real, measurable benefits: with no combustion engine, the Cyberster makes each drive cleaner for local communities and the wider environment, all while delivering a powerful emotional connection to the road.
The MG Cyberster embodies the classic roadster spirit with a driving experience that is centered on pure, exhilarating driving pleasure – open-top, two-seater sports car, known for its lightweight construction, sporty design, and agile handling. The core of this spirit is the commitment to maximum driver engagement with a distinct connection between the driver, the machine, and the road, something often missing from many EVs, but is highly evident in the MG Cyberster where you can really feel the road!

MG’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the Cyberster’s engineering and material choices. The CATL battery not only delivers robust performance and range-but also supports MG’s ongoing push for durable, recyclable components where possible. Electric vehicles reduce lifecycle emissions when powered by renewable energy, and as Malaysia expands its public charging infrastructure, owners can look forward to even greener motoring. The move to a soft-top electric roadster also represents a significant step in lowering the automotive industry’s carbon footprint.
On the technological front, the MG Cyberster showcases a suite of features tailored for drivers who value connectivity and comfort. The cabin centers around a wraparound, three-screen cockpit—combining a sharp 10.25-inch driver’s display with two auxiliary side screens—giving intuitive access to vehicle data and entertainment controls. A dedicated 7-inch infotainment display anchors the center console, merging essential functions and navigation tools. Eight Bose audio speakers provide high-quality sound for top-down journeys, adding an immersive dimension to every drive.
User experience is further elevated by thoughtful ergonomic design. Both driver and passenger sit in Y-shaped sport seats trimmed in leather with Alcantara inserts, featuring six-way electric adjustment and lumbar support as standard. The MG Sport Steering Wheel and center console design prioritise accessibility, while dual-zone automatic climate control ensures comfort regardless of external conditions. The presence of Bluetooth and USB ports ensures device connectivity, while the cabin materials balance sportiness and luxury.

Smart features found in the Cyberster include a rain-sensing wiper system, 360° surround-view cameras, and “Follow Me Home” lighting, crafted for both convenience and everyday safety. Five selectable drive modes allow the car to adapt from relaxed cruising to spirited performance, making it suitable for a range of driver preferences and scenarios. Other technologically advanced details—such as an electronic parking brake with auto hold, adaptive cruise control, and traffic jam assist—align with a modern lifestyle that demands both enjoyment and reassurance from its vehicles.
MG has designed the Cyberster to seamlessly fit into contemporary urban life, making each journey not only enjoyable but also responsible from an environmental and technological perspective. Owners benefit from exclusive after-sales support through MG Cyberster Garage, ensuring the vehicle stays sharp and dependable in the long term. With customizable colour options (my favourite has to be Dynamic Red), the car can match individual tastes without sacrificing efficiency or sophistication.
The MG Cyberster demonstrates how performance and responsibility blend in the evolving automotive landscape. Its fully electric setup, eco-minded design, and cutting-edge infotainment transform an iconic British silhouette into a forward-thinking roadster. For Malaysians looking to drive with purpose and style, the Cyberster makes the case that sustainability and lifestyle needn’t be mutually exclusive.
Besides the flagship Cyberster, MG also has various other models available in Malaysia, including the highly accessible MG5 sedan (NA engine), as well as multiple SUVs and crossovers like the powerful MG4 EV (my favourite besides the Cyberster!), MGS5 EV, MG ZS EV, and MG HS (NA engine). MG has some attractive year-end promotions for their ICE and EV models, so do check out their social media pages or website at https://www.mgmalaysia.com/
If you’re looking to get a CBU MG EV, you might want to do so before the (CBU EV) tax holiday ends in Malaysia on 31 December 2025.
