Swiss luxury watchmaker OMEGA has announced the return of its iconic Railmaster timepiece, introducing new models that blend vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge anti-magnetic capabilities nearly seven decades after the original’s debut.
The Railmaster first appeared in 1957 as part of OMEGA’s “Professional Line” trilogy, alongside the Speedmaster and Seamaster 300. Originally designed for railway professionals, the watch was engineered to withstand the magnetic fields commonly encountered in industrial environments, offering protection up to 1,000 gauss—significantly higher than the 60 gauss standard of competing timepieces at the time.
The collection has maintained its appeal among watch enthusiasts for its distinctive vintage styling and working-class heritage. Since 2003, OMEGA has released several Railmaster revivals, with this year’s stainless steel editions continuing that tradition.
The new models maintain design continuity with OMEGA’s Seamaster Aqua Terra collection through their symmetrical cases and linked bracelets—a design philosophy that has guided all Railmaster models since 2003.
Two 38mm variants are now available: a grey dial model with black gradient features clean minimalist styling, displaying only the OMEGA logo and Railmaster name. Large indexes and numerals are rendered in white Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability. The second model features a beige dial with black gradient and includes a Small Seconds function reminiscent of the 2004 Railmaster release, with vintage Super-LumiNova accents.
Both models offer versatility with leather strap or stainless steel bracelet options. The bracelets feature redesigned links with improved integration and comfort adjustment capabilities. Cases and metallic bracelets showcase a combination of polished and brushed finishes.
The technological advancement is perhaps most notable in the watches’ anti-magnetic properties. While the original Railmaster was groundbreaking for its era, the new models are powered by OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 (and Small Seconds 8804), offering 15 times greater magnetic resistance than their predecessors.
These movements are certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) and can withstand magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, representing a significant leap forward in horological protection standards.
OMEGA boutiques in Malaysia are located in Kuala Lumpur at The Gardens Mall, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Suria KLCC, and The Exchange TRX.
