Earlier today, I attended the launch of the new HUAWEI P50 Pro and the latest foldable smartphone, P50 Pocket which were unveiled at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre. It was nice to attend my first tech event of 2022 and catch up with the Huawei Mobile Malaysia team, as well as colleagues from the media.
The new HUAWEI P50 Pro represents a new chapter in Huawei’s mobile photography, aesthetic design and all-scenario experiences, while the HUAWEI P50 Pocket stylishly blends technological aesthetics and smart photography.
The HUAWEI P50 Pro and P50 Pocket come with the highly advanced HUAWEI XD Optics and XD Fusion Pro Image Engine so that users can enjoy True-Chroma Shot, excellent image clarity, high dynamic range and improved smart snapshot capabilities.
The HUAWEI P50 Pro introduces an all-new Dual-Matrix Camera design that is iconic and unique. It is available in two beautiful, premium finishes – Cocoa Gold and Golden Black.
The HUAWEI P50 Pro comes with a bigger screen and battery, while maintaining its light and slim appearance. It has a 3D curved glass display, supporting the full P3 wide colour gamut, up to 1.07 billion colours to deliver accurate and true to life colours. With up to 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate, users can enjoy a smooth and responsive experience.
The HUAWEI P50 Pro’s Dual-Matrix Camera system aims to deliver True to Life imagery with extreme clarity and high dynamic range by balancing the capabilities of multiple lenses, HUAWEI XD Optics, XD Fusion Pro Image Engine and other innovations.
The all-new HUAWEI XD Optics applies computations to rectify optical errors and reproduce fine details. The XD Fusion Pro significantly improves detail, colour and dynamic range while the True-Chroma Image Engine delivers the well-performed colour accuracy, creating images that reflect what is seen by the human eye.
The HUAWEI P50 Pro supports 200 times zoom range. Close-up shots are detailed while zoomed shots up to 100 times are improved due to HUAWEI XD Optics (Ed – I tried this feature and found that it’s best to keep the zoom to the maximum 3.5x optical zoom for the best details. Anything beyond that is hybrid zoom and no matter what you will lose detail.). The phone also supports 4K video recording across the full focal range and all-new AIS Pro image stabilisation solution.
With HUAWEI P50 Pro and EMUI 12, user access Device+ to set up multi-device collaboration with the HUAWEI Vision, FreeBuds, MateBook etc. Regarding smart features based on Huawei’s unique distributed technology, users can transform the smartphone into a flash drive for PCs, transfer their MeeTime calls to the smart TV and conduct the Multi-Party MeeTime Calls further support HD voice and video calls with up to 12 parties.
HUAWEI P50 Pocket
The HUAWEI P50 Pocket also adopts the signature HUAWEI P50 Series double-ring design, with one ring housing the camera module and the other the smart Cover Screen. The Premium Gold colour of HUAWEI P50 Pocket Premium Edition, is designed with Haute Couture designer, Iris van Herpen, and is guided by the principle of “symbiosis”.
The HUAWEI P50 Pocket folds seamlessly into a (relatively) slim, lightweight body from a 6.9-inch, 21:9 display. The refresh rate of the display is up to 120Hz, 300Hz touch sampling rate and 1440Hz high frequency PWM dimming support to protect users’ eyes.
The Ultra Spectrum Camera Matrix of P50 Pocket comes with a 40MP True-Chroma Camera, a 13MP Ultra Wide Angle Camera, a 32MP Ultra Spectrum Camera etc. The HUAWEI P50 Pocket is able to capture more details and produce clearer images day and night because of HUAWEI XD Optics and True-Chroma Image Engine.
In addition, using the Ultra Spectrum Fluorescence Photography feature, the HUAWEI P50 Pocket can also capture content and details that are unseen by the human eye, enabling users to unveil patterns that were previously hidden in plain sight.
The HUAWEI P50 Pocket’s Cover Screen supports the display of notifications, schedule, calendar, music, weather, and control of other features. A range of vibrant themes are available, so users can customise their Cover Screen interaction experience.
